I've been having trouble w/ Steam l8ly myself. Often, even though I can see it running, it won't open the UI. Also, when I ctrl+alt+del to force quit and restart (while does get it working) I see that hl2.exe and GameOverlayUI.exe are still running, even though it's been hours since I last played a game.
Right now, my only purpose/need is for a gaming machine. School isn't something viable right now (mostly cuz the system I'm in is shit), and I can't continue using the X300 I've got in my Dell any longer (and obviously no upgrades can be done).
I was hoping for decent results from this system, as it was $1700 and had the second highest Geforce 8M card in it. I've got the 1440x900 res to fall beck on too, so I'll give that a try Sunday night (next time I've got enough free time) and see how it goes. If this won't last me the average PC life cycle of 2 years, then my next option is a $3500 machine, which I'd like to avoid.
On the reduced not, what numbers do you think I should be looking for on Crysis at medium settings at 1440x900, for it to be good for the next two years, given that Crysis is the prime candidate for benchmarking, since you need a powerful system to run it?
While gaming is the primary purpose of it, I'm also looking for portability. Something I can take to a LAN or to Grandma's house, so I don't have to lug around a tower and monitor.
I'm pissed as a Canadian. I the article said that a lot of common privacy tools would be illegal. This to me seems to mean that we no longer have any rights to privacy, which is the biggest concern to me.
I've seen decent/respectable performance with my benchmark titles, all of which were played at native resolution at medium settings.
Crysis - Low to mid 20s generally, low to mid teens during cutscene/ice caverns. Bioshock - Low to mid 30s Unreal 3 - 40 to 60 depending on level of action
Are these levels good enough to last me a couple of years, or should I go with a higher spec'd system?
Well...looks like I'm not getting Ep2, TF2 or Portal any time soon. There's no way I going to fucking pay to get 3 new games, along w/ additional copies of 2 I already own, nor am I going to pay MORE just to get the 3 alone. That's absolute bullshit.
Hey, I wanted the Big Daddy figure, and since it's get it at launch or probably not at all, it was either the PC version, which I have to wait at least for a like $100 upgrade, or the 360 version, which I'd have to wait for a 360.
That's right bitches. I gots me the Bioshock Limited Edition.
Course, I can't play it on account of my shitty comp and the tip of his drill was chipped slightly but I still laugh at local 360 owners. There Daddies lost that whole arm in shipment.
8 GB isn't really all that much saw1833. Steam takes up about 6.5GB (at least it does for me) and Command and Conquer: First Decade takes up nearly 11GB (granted it's like 12 different games but Add/Remove Programs sees it as one).
Break out your pocket books, this one's breakin' the bank. As it is, b/c of the graphics card (I have a 128MB X300), I don't even meat the minimum requirements, which means for now I just get to look at the Big Daddy figure I get w/ my Limited Ed. How do you guys stack up?

It's been driving me nuts for an hour or two now. I can't recall the name of this flash game (at least I think it's flash).
Your character is a drawing on paper, and you navigate around a 2D world that looks like it's made of colored paper. Also, you're able to reorient the game (turn it 90) and, of course, change the direction of the gravity.
It's still in it's early stages Trapt. The latest release is 0.3.1. I think it may end up dying soon though, since they don't seem to have a mapper or modeler atm.
This mod is criminally under hyped. It really needs some help.
You play as either the Rebels or the Combine, who of course, try to kill each other. Catch is, when you respawn, it's in the jail of the opposing team (Rebels in Combine jail and vise versa). To get free, one of the still free members of you team has to get into the base of the opposing team and unlock the jail. When all members of a team are in jail, the game is over and you are treated to the death of the losing team, done as the mapper sees fit.
There are only two servers right now, and they are usually empty, but maybe if we can get more ppl interested, that will change.
I hope he gets it working. If he doesn't, I'm looking at Cedega to do it and I'll move to Linux. There's no way in hell I'm gonna get Me II, especially with what I recently heard it does to HD content if it detects that u may be trying to pirate it. I'll wait for XP II to come out, since MS finally admitted that they fucked up w/ Vista.
Also, that guy is a hacker. 'Hackers' are the good code jockeys. The general media misuses it and calls the bad guys that, when they are actually called 'crackers'. Now You Know.
I'm too lazy to read so if someone already mentioned this, stfu, I don't care.
I played w/ this for 5-10 mins and then uninstalled. The concept seems interesting, but TIM (The Incredible Machine) was more fun b/c you could actually SCRIPT a sequence and have it run on it's own, not you activating every little thing.
I'm lookin' forward to the R600, primarily b/c it's going to be the first laptop DirectX 10 card. nVidia's not planning on the laptop version of the GeForce * 'til at least the end of the year.
Damn it, someone beat me to it. I was going to suggest this same thing as a way to get out word of the talent this little community has. I actually started to make a room for my contribution, but my HDD crash and lack of a tool like Pb`s, this went on hold.
I say we go ahead w/ this idea and make it in Source, as it`s obviously the superior engine :P.
I found this yesterday while checking out the newest releases over at FPSBanana. The house is completely destructible, `cept for certain props w/in. The sad thing is though I don`t know if it`s the lack of power my comp has to give to the Havok engine, or the values need to be tweaked, or my lack of knowledge regarding real life construction, but after destroying all the 'main' supports (which I thought were the large corner pieces, the house still doesn`t fall down. Still fun none the less.
It was build w/ the intention of using it in HL2 or HL2DM, but I recommend SMOD Remastered: Redux. You get a hell of a lot more toys to destroy the place w/, but some of the included methods (fire and earthquake, off the top of my head) don`t work properly, but the banana bombs more than make up for that.
