We'll I've been seeking advice as to how to go about doing it. I've also been doing research. We should Skype some time soon so I can give you the just of it. We could also go over the mini competition base map I am working on.

I'm considering getting adobe flash pro for this game/program/app.

I've actually started a base map for another mini competition. This one won't have many rules at all besides staying within the boundaries of the map.

It's coming along very beautifully and is very inspiring. I was originally inspired by an old map of mine I accidently loaded.

It's pretty far from ready but I plan on spending a lot of time working on it.

Looks really good Rimrook.

I'm working on learning to make grass that blows in the wind with blender's particle editor and physics. Also a little bit of texturing, just following along a tutorial.

I will be offering anyone who is willing to help some good pay to make either an app or program that can be purchased by users.

For anyone that has any understanding just let me know. I will produce all of the art work. This app or program will use 3d models created in various 3d modeling programs and animated probably in blender. I'm very rusty in blender and hardly know animating so it will be a while before the artwork is ready but I am just posting this to see if anyone is interested.

The 3d models will be rendered with animations and then to keep the program simple video clips will be used and looped.

I won't give away much about it but it is basically a to do list app or program for at home or especially for at work.

I am also making a toy with similar features as the program. That's an entire other story though.

I sort of prefer just a program so that people can buy it for a few bucks or so and install it on their computer at home and work. The purchase would include two installs for such.

If anyone is interested just email me at mechumchal@yahoo.com for further details and we can sew everything out. Also feel free to post discussion in here although I won't say much about the program itself before it's completed.

Anyone who has basic coding experience should be able to handle this and of course I will include your name and information in the final release or whatever you prefer.

I believe this is something that could be coded in a few days but I really don't have the experience to actually know.

The art work will take up the majority of the build as it will be very art heavy.

I could use help with texturing the models too if anyone's looking for some work for generous pay. If you could also animate them then I will pay you more. I will make all the models though as i'm really proficient with rhino.

I have Inventor! You know that program that goes for over seven grand... Apparently it was included with my student version Autodesk Design suite I bought a few years ago. It came with 3Ds max, mudbox and some other programs like sketchbook designer.

Just installed inventor. This weekend is going to be delicious.

Rim, I will Dl your model and check it out soon.

Hahaha, I thought about if making it was in my grasp of power as well.

I wonder if it is possible with certain physics based modeling softwares.

I just realized I might have a copy of autodesk inventor at home because I bought a copy of autodesk suite 2013 when I was in school to get 3Ds Max and it may be included!!! :D

Awaits getting home.

Oh and func_pushables have humongous collision boxes so I don't think they would work.

Rimrook I wish you had finished your competition 33 entry, it was coming along so nicely and with that model flying around it I couldn't imagine how cool it'd have been.

Looks good Alberto, except, you used golf balls ;) .

Duke nukem 3d has a cool pool table where you can hit the balls and they move/ bounce into each other and go in the holes.

I wanted to create a generalized thread where 3D modeling can be discussed as many members seem to be gaining interest in it as am I.

I use Rhinoceros 5.0 a lot, but I want to know more than just one tool so I've ventured into blender and 3Ds Max.

I instantly fell in love with blender's UI however, just recently I ran into a problem with blender. I was doing a Boolean with two pretty complex solids and it wouldn't work nicely at all without creating a million jagged triangles. "Boolean is basically the carve tool in hammer but has options to join carving geometry or not"

I was able to do it in Rhino very nicely. I've yet to try it in 3Ds max but will update when I do and let you know how it works out.

I also have been learning T-splines plugin for Rhino. It basically converts nurbs mesh which is derived from curves into polygon mesh which is derived from triangles and then is able to convert it back. I believe this is a powerful tool but haven't messed with it much yet.

Please share and discuss any experience you might have so that TWHL can make some beautiful models  .

I agree, this one should stay on TWHL, and next transition to GB then again who am I to say when I probably won't finish an entrance for this one. Just been too busy and already spent a lot of time mapping recently on the last mini competition.

It's a shame because I really like this one. :aggrieved:

Twhl just hosted a mini competition with vanilla textures, I doubt you'd get any one's attention with this again.

Also, another competition is going on right now so I would wait until the current one is over especially since it has so much interest.

Besides all that i'd be willing to make a death match map but definitely not with vanilla textures. I'm no texture guru but it's pretty easy to pick up basic photo shop and use images from the web. Half life vanilla textures huts muh eyez!

I like the idea of paying and money prizes, sounds like a fun idea to add.

Awesome wips Trempler!

Cool to see someone else is learning blender TJB as I am too.

I like rhino though as it is a cad 3d modeling software and I can easily model with dimensions.

Then I export into blender for animations and whatever else I learn.

It's hard to model organic shapes in rhino though so that's where t-splines comes in.

I really like the parameters involved here, really interesting.

When I think of color I think of mood to go with it i.e. music, sound, ambience, shadow etc. Without custom sound and shadow these stipulations cause me to think uniquely in a way I don't think I have done before.

If it weren't due to stress from work, I think i'd have something in mind.

How about Top 5 Maps (For hl/hl mod, source/ source mod). Continue with worst games if you like, I just couldn't think of any. Solitaire?...

Excluding your own, I really like somewhere in time, de_dust_thunder, flow_control and myles_room and some of which I've never submitted, just architectural...

I'm a goldsource fan so my opinion is biased.

1. Endless rain (Scientist hunt) By: Hondo
If you haven't played this map by now, you probably should. That is if you can find it.

2. Carbaseus (Half life 1 Dm) By: K7
Form meets, the entire hammer void.

3. Blahhh (Counterstrike 1.6) By: Nipper "Nathaniel Miller"
Drugs? Who needs them? Just play one of Nipper's abstract maps, especially blahhh.

4. Poison Garden (Half life 1 Dm) By: Rimrook
This map could probably go higher on my list. Texture use combined with concept, besides originally having too much poison otherwise flawless!

5. surf_icebob2 (Counterstrike CZ with proper scripts) By: Bob Fincheimer
this map wasn't necessarily pretty, but man was it fun!

I've been studying colors a little, but instead of mapping i'm applying color to toy design... I may still get something together to enter though.

I feel like a nice abstract house will be a good idea, and fsr I keep imagining working door knobs. I just imagine them being sexy full bright.

I'm coming up with a really big idea, then probably only mapping a small spectrum of that idea since it will be based on style.

Rules, summed up according to Rimrook and The Mighty Atom.

-Clarifying original statement says no mods are allowed and engine gold source, but you can map for another mod as long as it's playable in half life or you make a half life version for the competition and source is now allowed. It can also be multi player.

-Deadline 8/22/14.

-Use sense of colors and construction to bring environment to life.

-Judging based on your clever use of design, color choices, theme and mood.

-Creativity is paramount.

-Can use vanilla sounds but not being judged on sounds at all, Rim is test playing in mute.

-Not judging based on gameplay.

-Almost entirely a style competition.

-Rimrook is willing to help you if you're stuck, so just ask him ;).

-Gradients: Allowed

-Render color: Allowed

-Sprites: Allowed

Bending these rules will get you disqualified so touch with both hands for those of you that swim ;).

What do we say, first place also picks next mini competition theme and pairs up with someone to judge or decides to pass the torch?
