I wasn't saying I don't like the mod you were talking about, but I'm more of a casual player. And I don't have much time on my hands anymore, I would have entered the server only now and then, for fun, not to be stressed I don't have lots of resources to compete with others.

Die Fantastisch Stürmer Land grants eligible citizens free funds for investing in green energy. Thus, most of the houses have solar panels on their roof, or solar heaters for water.
Due to the sub-tropical climate, this means that our country almost never burns fuel for heating water.

Its capital, Grünstadt, was engineered to be a green, self-sustained intelligent city. It has a circular structure, featuring an academic center surrounded by beautiful gardens. There are buildings of blissful architecture that strive to have the least impact on the environment as possible. Legislation obliges each tower building to grow gardens at the last floor.

I don't know... For me Half-Life 1 is wearing out even its nostalgic value. Perhaps because I discovered it much later. I know I saw it first sometime between 2000-2004, and then I played it for the first time on my computer in 2007. It's just that... FPS games like Half-Life(which are mostly an engine showoff, but Half-Life was quite good) are extremely exploited.

Plus, we can't even be talking about nostalgia when we interact with HL content everyday- be it media, playing or mapping.

I hope the trend of creating better versions of the GoldSRC engine is just because some people can and will invest time in creating something. If this actually has the purpose of making a better GoldSRC that blends better with current technology, then that's plain stupid and I hope it stops.

For an object to accelerate to the speed of light, it would exponentially have to increase in mass (fuel) to reach that speed, which would increase its needs for more fuel, and so on and so on. That is why with our current understanding of things, to jump to the speed of light is impossible.

However, this does not account for things already traveling at the speed of light
From this statement I understand objects already being at the speed of light can travel faster than this. Let's take photons. We know that since they are in motion, they have mass, so they are affected by gravity.
Voyager 2 has been accelerated into deep space by a gravity swing. What stops light from doing the same thing?
What happens with a photon inside a black hole?

I think about that sometimes. Haven't read a lot on the subject, but I imagine all those particles still exist, yet they are incredibly compressed. It's impossible that they don't exist, since all that mass is still there( otherwise I imagine that transforming all that mass-to-energy like in E=MC^2 would blow up several galaxies). Hah, if you think about it, probably black holes exist to prevent the Universe from blowing up! It's a sort of astronomical garbage-collection.

But something new comes to my mind: what if black holes are actually a massive version of a sub-atomic particle? Since all those particles collapse in a point, maybe they don't coexist, because they "don't have the space". So the big particles are broken in elementary particles, until, at some point, just those basic energy vibrations remain, which unite into a single, dense ball of energy. I read somewhere that if you'd take all of the space from within the atoms, a cruiser would fit in a space less than the tip of a needle. Maybe that's what's happening with black holes :.

I wanted to know how solids are represented in a .vmf, and while tinkering with them in hammer and then visualizing in notepad++, I noticed the thing.

in Plane aligning CTRL+M Post #313846
I recently investigated some things about .vmf files. I accidentally noticed that when modifying in Hammer some vertices, even if they appear to be in an exact position, the actual plane parameters are quite odd.

For instance, we have this 64x64x64 cube, positioned at 0,0,0 with its bottom-left corner.
User posted image
Here you can see the plane parameters of the top and bottom face:

Now I'm going to rotate this on Y by 180 degrees:

The plane parameters now look like this:

What's happening here? I believe this doesn't affect how map compiles( although... the compiler interprets nothing else but this .vmf!). But if this happens on most of the brushes, and I use quite a lot CTRL+M, I can start to imagine why sometimes vrad simply stops compiling without reason(I have talked about the issue of vrad.exe stopping the compile on bigger maps( CPU 0%) several times).

This thread is like a pendulum swinging at full speed from one side to another.

Source would've been great: it cuts down any problems you guys have with 3D skyboxes and other effects you'd like. The Source SDK is easy to install via Steam and doesn't need any manual configurations. Some people don't bother with HL1 mapping anymore. Most of the other TWHL projects were GoldSrc.
I think in 2020( by then HL3 will have hopefully appeared) we'll switch to Source, call that retro and GoldSrc ancient.

GoldSrc, or SoHL, or Xash, or whatever SUPER EPIC AWESOMNESS SPECIAL EFFECTS of 2013 WITH PARALLAX MAPPING MODERN SHADERS IMPROVED GRAPHIX HL ENGINE type is fine by me. A few installs and manual configurations don't scare me, I've done it before lots of times. I'm just intrigued by what we chose.

I will start on mine probably by the end of this month. Until then, can somebody post a map? It's the only way the project is going to start.

This discussion started with a skyscraper in mind:
User posted image
Now the theme of the project will be somewhat like:
User posted image
I understand that we shouldn't have restrictions on the project, but if we are to make something beautiful, we should have some consistency across all the floors.

I voted for Source because Source has limits that can be pushed farther than those of GoldSource. What is the point of making a skyscraper without being able to view it from outside? Also, consider the advantage of a 3D skybox.

Regardless of the engine you're going to choose, I'm going to post here some suggestions:

0. :hammer: ** :hammer: The consistency I'm talking here shouldn't be that severe. We can decide on a fixed size for every floor, but taking into account that everybody wants something else, we can decide on more "relative" sizes. By that I mean: if one floor is 30x30, the next floor can't be more than double than that. We should try to keep the shape of the tower, without big fluctuations.
We can also decide on an oddly shaped tower, but in that case everybody will have to be tasked with different room sizes:
User posted image
I. :hammer: ** :hammer: The relative depth of the room also has to be known, so we won't oscillate by a lot.

II. :hammer: ** :hammer: If somebody will want to make pools, then that person has to:
1) Create 2 floors, for the lower floor taking into consideration the existence of a pool behind the ceiling.
2) Talk to somebody who will create the floor beneath him.

III. :hammer: ** :hammer: I don't mind science fiction, but please don't put a spaceship in a tower.

IV. :hammer: ** :hammer: We aren't forced to limit ourselves to single rooms. But again, think about consistency: if above you there will be tens of "normal-sized"(a relative term) rooms, you can't create a "normal-sized" single room. Either make that a big hall, or more rooms.

V. :hammer: ** :hammer: I think we should try to adapt the outside environment accordingly. This mostly applies to GoldSource, if you're going to choose that, because Source can cram in more floors without changing the level.
What I mean is that on the first floors, we should be able to see some ground scenery, but as we go up, we begin to see less and less details(with a farther horizon).
Eventually, if we can be so extreme, we can reach the clouds and even space, with a nice blue haze of the Earth atmosphere. Now that's where I'd put the high-tech floors!

VI. :hammer: ** :hammer: I'm going to repeat this. This is not "Rooms" in cake-style. Rooms was without any restrictions because of its style, but we are creating a tower here. There has to be some consistency.

We were all taught that when talking about a real number, there is no natural next number that follows after it, because an infinite number of real numbers can still be found in between them.

That is not the case of natural numbers, where the increment or decrement is always 1. This is very useful in programming, as it is the basis of loops.

But mathematics is an imaginary tool created by our minds in the attempt to explain natural phenomenons. Sure, we can pretend that the set of real numbers have an infinite amount of steps between numbers, but is that true in the real world?

Physicists struggled to measure the Universe from its epic dimensions down to ridiculously small scales.
The smallest scale which is thought to exist is the Planck length.

1 Planck length = 1.61619926 × 10^(-35) meters

What if the "REAL" step when talking about numbers is the planck length?
