This thread is pure gold.

"ok guys, new plan.

Its gonna be a 3d mod. in space. you play a lost antlion who has to join his colony. at the end you kill the Gman.

I'm gonna need a some coders, a couple of mappers, 3oz of concept artists, an onion and some tinned tomatos."

bi-monthly bump :P

still looking sweet, I dont know how you can model without references though!

not sure what the problem with the water was but I know what you mean about trying to keep it 100% your own work, or as close to it as possible.

keep up the good mapping! :hammer:

okay, sit down for this one :

fisrt of all, the one thing that sttod out for me was the fact that at the begining of the game, before the player has any weapons, you spawn manhacks. thats really not fun.

Your brushwork is pretty good, impressive in some areas, but all your arcitechture is far far too small, buildings are too small, streets, rooms everything. it feels cramped and it doesnt feel like theres a work outside the mod. Ill come back to this point later.

The voice acting is down right bad. you can see the thought is there, good dialouge, accents, but every single word sounds wodden, spoken as. if. there. WAS. a. serious. PUNCTUATION. issue. the sound quality is all right but the acting is bad. however I will easily let that slide as you actually HAVE voicve acting. go in the end thats a plus.

there where loads of general bad spots mapping wise, jagged displacements in the middle of a roag Im trying to drive down, shitloads of phys enabled crates where the player wont see them. snipers EVERYWHERE for no good reason. once again, cramped cramped areas. the airboat scenes where rediculous in this regard. bouncing off the walls either side, and only traveling about a metre before having to get out again. driving sections should be BIG. with plenty of space.

Health and ammo was sparse causing me to run around on 10 hp for most of the time. you released the mod with your own personal control layout including god knows where the jump button was and inverted mouse. most obvious gman placement ever. everywhere seems to be high contrast or something. (full brightness, LCD moniter). I had to noclip when I got stuck in a wall.

all that said, scripted sequences where very good. and there where alot of nice ideas in place. also, this is hardly a fair review as I didnt finish the mod. I got too fed up with it. :/

sorry for being a bit harsh, its by far better than most mods, but these are the crits. its not bad, but theres alot that could do with fixing, or at least bearing in mind when you move on to your next project, no doubt you will just get better and better with source as you carry on.

in Orange Box Mapping has arrived Post #238137
the dynamic cinematic effects are done in its own variant of the source engine, their not some giant animated object, or how would the pieces react with the world? but they havnt put in the dynamic effects engine bcause its to complicated for us mere modders to handle.

Half Life 2: Episode 2: 2D, 2

but then you need a snazzy tag line on the end of the title, yknow, like 'action game 2: the killing'

Half Life 2: Episode 2: 2D 2, the 2nd Dimension

or HL2:EP2:2D2,t2D for short. it rolls right off the tongue.

hey at least explain why!

The carving tool, mchappy, is very bad at its job, and can make a big mess if you try can carve something complicated.

use the clip tool to slice up your door into parts, you can click the clip button again to choose which half gets discarded, or to keep them both.

check about for some tutorials on it!

Moab - check the post dates :P clearly not :)

rimrook - looks good so far, but I think your going to have to try something a bit more complicated than planar mapping for this. UV mappings always the worst part of modelling for me :/

ok I played the early demo and it looks great! I think it could be really fun and I like the idea of having a puzzle game where your in first person, its very original! however, I got stuck. on the tutorial. gameplay needs a little tweaking - by that I mean tou need to take alot of of time to experiment with difficulty and which level goes where etc. Don't worry! I know its early days so I dont expect it to have a perfect difficulty curve now or any time soon, butt keep up the sweet work because this is great!

in Make some money :D Post #207971
I hope! does anyone remember spedia? or some site like that? it basically paid you to use a program while being on the internet, a few of my friends made a good bit of cash off it. well on the evilavatar forums someone pointed out a site called algoco which sound like the same thing and Ive had people more knowlegable than me look over it and they reckon it looks pretty legit.
basically you download some toolbar (annoyingly it runs on the desktop not in a browser but oh well) and the money generated from ads on it and the antivirus antipopup software on it goes through algoco (they get 10%) then to you. and obviously its a community thing, so you get more the more you refer. I recon it sound like a pretty nice way to make an extra $20 a month.. more if you actually get a fair amount of people to join.

Heres teh link!

oh yeah im totaly a bot for posting this :P

he also does an ok show called braniacs which aired in the US (saw it a few times there I think) but really you guys should be watching top gear. its awesome.

I was born in new york, but Ive lived in the UK all my life. I visit the US at least once a year for a few weeks to see relitives on my moms side. my best friend happens to be american as well, but he hasnt lived in the UK his whole life.

as an observer who sees both sides I can proudly say - america is going down the fucking drain.

I mean to get some bread Id have to drive - no matter how close the fucking walmart is, because you dont fucking have sidewalks, to some monstrosity of a store of a freeway, made of cheep plaster and breezer blocks, pass a counter where I can buy a fucking maching gun or some crap, queue for ages at checkout 306 and find my cars been stolen.

In the UK I can quite happily walk to any of my mates houses, the local shops where I talk to people I know at the till, and walk back home and at no point see anyone being 'gangsta'

I find american suburb towns so false and braindead it makes me actually scared.

The prefix 'dys', as in 'dysfunctional', well, it's pretty obvious what that means. Stuck "lexicon" on the end... it's not exactly a deep thought, mate.
kinda missing the point - its like the lisp thing, why call a dysfunction where complicated words are muddled 'dyslexia' rather than somthing more simple?

similarly, is you say lysdexia to a dyslexic person they will not understand what you mean.

emos are annoying as hell, but I dont talk to them and dont know any.

if you want to destroy emoism, take down MSN and MySpace. this will disorganize them allowing for smooth clean strikes on middle class communter towns around london.

chavs are harder to get rid of, theyre not smart enought to use the interwebs.
