in Dam Virus!! Post #257856
Well, I was only able to recover a little bit, but they were old rmf's though :( I thought I recovered a couple .map files that were very recent. They load into hammer(no errors like all of the others), but they don't show up. Either I'm an idiot(very possible), or I can't find a way to convert back to rmf. Is there a magical button that does this, or would it show up automatically? I can honestly say I have never loaded a .map file in hammer. I've only used .map files for batch compilers(Compilator was one of the programs that survived and is awesome). I would ask that Spike guy, since he said it could be done easily with hammer, but he got himself banned...lol.

Oh good. I couldn't remember if you could or not. I prolly should re-install hammer before I reformat, just to make sure those files I restored will work.

Once again, thanks for all your guys help. This site is the best. I posted my problem in my clans forum and I didn't get one response. I post it here, and I get help and suggestions from people I don't even know, and don't even know me. I'm so glad there are people here that know what they are talking about and are willing to help. Thanks.

Oh that sucks man. Hit by the irony virus.

Well, I was able to restore some older rmf's, hopefully they work. I won't know till I reformat and re-install hammer. I was able to find a newer .map file though. Can those be reverted back to .rmf?

Ya, my dad gets viruses all the time too. All he uses it for is work stuff and email. I guess this is the new version of "XPantispyware". There's a lot of people that have got it lately. http://www.xp-vista.com/spyware-removal/antispyware-xp-2009-removal-instructions-antispywarexp-2009

Some people actually paid for it...lol

Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys. Hopefully all is not lost. I'm going to try everything to get that map back. And yes Tito, it was horrible. I don't even know how it got on my system. One minute I was on facebook, the next my pc was crashing. After I was finally able to boot my pc, it wouldn't let me download or run any new programs. I was finally able to get malwarebytes anti-malware to download somehow, but I had to run it in safe mode...lol. I swear, if I ever meet a virus maker, I'm breaking all of their fingers.

snapfiles looks good. I think I'm gonna try that first. It has the best price :D

I thought I backed everything up when I got service pack 3, like 2 weeks ago. This thing disabled my firewall, my antivirus and all my anti-spyware programs. It even created another user..lol. Anyone ever use these software recovery tools?

Anyone know of a recovery tool besides system restore to retrieve info that was wiped out by a virus? Or does such a thing even exist. I got attacked by XPantispyware2009, a bastard of a virus. It downloaded and installed itself. It seems it wiped out steam, Hammer and all my maps, IE, MSN messenger and a whole lot of other shit. It also deleted all my restore points. I finally got rid of it, took 5 days. The only thing I care about retrieving is my latest map, which was 99% done. Or am I SOL?

in Map maybe too big? Post #247980
OK. I'll try to hunt down that leaf portal, but I've never had a problem with that warning before. Usually I get one of those on each map I do and it compiles fine.

I hate that dam larger than normal texture one. It's in my .wad but I'm not using it in my map. I'll just delete those from the .wad I guess. I just checked the "-chart" box in the compilator. First time using a batch compiler too.

If those don't work, I'll jusy start deleting shit till it compiles. LOL.

Thanks for the input guys!

I just don't understand why it's reading from 2 diff directories when my path is only to one of them. It's wierd. Maybe I just don't understand the compile process well. Plus I get a windows error before it even gets to reading the textlights. I'll delete one and try again and cross my fingers and toes. Dam 3 hour compile times!!!!

in Map maybe too big? Post #247928
I'm having problems compiling one of my maps. Every other map of mine compiles fine but this one. Whether I compile from hammer or use a batch compiler, I get a windows error about the bsp.exe having a problem. This is for CS 1.6. I don't see any errors in my log but there are some wierd warnings about text lights. I'm not even using most of the textlights it lists either. Maybe I have too much stuff in the map? Heres my log...

in remaking a map? Post #188999
Poop. That's what I was looking for, WinBSP. Thanks. I remember hearing about decompiling maps and having them all screwed up, but never tried it(obviously). I was hoping I didnt need to rebuild the whole thing. Thanks for the input guys!

in remaking a map? Post #188797
what program do I need to re-make a map, or to decompile it? I forgot the name of it. This guy I play with wants a cs_italy_cz map but with a few changes to it. It'll be for cs 1.6 of course :D I searched the forums and Tut's but I'm dumb, I can't find an answer. I have the converted one for cs 1.6, but can't find the right program to decompile it. And yes, I know re-makes are dumb, but my buddy really wants it done, to make it a more even map. It is wayyyy "T" sided as it is. Thanks !!

my textures are already at 2.0 mb, and im only 1/2 done with the map. It'll prolly be 3.5 - 4.0 mb. Would that be to big to wadinclude or should I just use the .wad file I'm making with all the used textures? I just ask becasue I've downloaded some maps from servers before and they took forever. Probably dosnt really matter. I would guess the download times would be about the same with a bsp with wadinclude vs bsp and a wad. I'll prolly just make a wad because I'm going to make a knife map(don't laugh) with the same textues. Kinda a small version of my the map I'm making now, just for giggles :D So I guess I just answered my own question. Thanks for the help guys!!

A few people on our clans server had to DL halflife wad for one of my other maps though, its for cs 1.6 if that matters. I just thought that having the same textures, but in differnet wads may conflict with each other. Like if joeblow.wad and jillblow.wad both had the same wall texture and name. But that's why I'm a nub mapper  Thanks for the help.

Im trying to make a .wad with some of the halflife texures in it(lights and stuff) along with other textures so a person dosnt have to DL 5 wads for my map. My question is, do I have to rename each individual texure, or add some random number like 33 to the end of them? I just want to know before I upload it to our server for a trial run.

in climbable ivy? Post #170830
well, I finally got it to work. Man, what a pain. Thanks for all your help guys. The ivy was already an entity(func_illusionary) so I tried making the ladder the same shape as the ivy, but I still got the same result. Seems everytime I strafed off or moved off the ladder, I would shoot across the map or somewhere else. I guess the HL engine dosn't like weird shaped ladders? The only way I could make it work was making a ladder like the pic below, because I didnt want people climbing on a plain wall(don't laugh, it's only my 3rd map). I dunno why. I tried every suggestion and anything I could think of. I could just be retarded, which is very possible. Anyway, thanks for the help again. You guys rock.
Oh yeah, making some of the subtle changes I made to entities helped a lot with my compile time. Thanks dude!

I'm working on it now. Steam kept crashing on me last night. Gotta love steam. Ever since I added that ivy, as well as some other little things, my compile times went from 30 minutes to 70.

thanks for the quick replies. I thought I would post a link to the pic of what I'm talkin about. I'll try the options y'all provided. I think maybe I was gettin caught on a 2 unit thick lip between the texture and the func_ladder. It was funny as hell when I climbed it, and went shooting across the screen. I've never seen that happen before :D I was like...weeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! Then I lost all my HP when I landed. the first time i made a copy of that, then pasted it, made it func_ladder, and evertime i went off the ivy, i went shootin across the screen. Was funny but frustrating.

OK...I'm new to this forum and have used a lot of info from this site on the maps I've made, thank you BTW. I have a small problem. I made some ivy on a wall that I want to make climbable. I used a regular ivy texture, not the see-through kind. I made it the same way you make a ladder(yes I know how to make a ladder). It seems to work but when you reach the top of the wall/ivy, it shoots me across the map. Then in my console, it says veleocity to high on 1 and 2. The ivy is irregular in shape. I've tried the copy/paste method, just like making a regular ladder. I've also tried making several ladders side by side. But I get the same result, getting shot across the map(it's kinda funny). Is there another way to do this? I have no errors in my log, it compiles everytime. So I don't know what the deal is. Thanks.
