Please be aware i'm talking about 100+ odd textures, and there is a fairly fat line between laziness and practicality. What is this wildcard thing i hear of?

is there a way to batch import an absolute boatload of bmps into a wad using wally other than cut'n'pasting individually? May god have mercy on my soul if there isnt........

in What was your first map like? Post #23193
I haven't actually finished any maps yet, ever. Although one that is almost completed which is really cool, is an SP map from the start of a series, high up in the siberian mountains, entrance to a secret base etc. All rocky and frozen.

mind if I start an argument? cool. SOF 2 is better.
Why? The AI is absolutely superb, the plot, whilst hardly being brain matter, is handled pretty solidly, the realism is well balanced. Although I have heard hundreds of people on forums wailing about how hard it is, but frankly its meant to be. If people can't keep up then they should stick to simpler games. MP is also excellent.

SOF 1, whilst being great fun to just run through wasting hoards of enemies, just isn't as advanced. It's certainly good though.

I still come to this site, but I haven't mapped anything in weeks! What's worse is that I find myself hoarding models, sounds and textures scrounged from other mods with the intention of "one day" borrowing them for my own mod

Seems like the most obvious thing is to talk to a doctor about it in general. If it's causing pain then they've got to try and help in some way. Also it seems to me that there must be a more helpful solution than amputation.

in help virus! Post #21325
i think of got a bugger of a virus, so tell me if this sounds familiar. My PC starts fine but after an unpredictable length of time it'll just click into standby mode, and all i can do is just turn off the thing at the switch. I then have to wait half an hour before i can re-activate it.
My OS is windows ME which doesn't help, but is there a free decent program with which i can run a sweep over the whole hard drive?
Of course this could just be a self-preservation device built into the PC which is frankly on its last legs. Any help?

I don't think it'll end up big enough to warrant that sort of thing, but if anyone can code an env_fog into HL then i could just do a micro-mod that way. I can't remember how big spirit is, but copying it and sticking in my maps as a mod feels excessive. Of course if enough people have spirit, then i can just release the BSPs.

it's so amusing that as everyone here is teenaged (more or less), we all just do the whole mapping business and atom speaks only every now and then like some sort of higher presence we look up to, and then seventh comes along and says "he's just proccupied with schoolwork right now"! i just find that very funny.

in Invisible wall Post #20180
depends what you need it for...to stop players going through, just make a brush with the clip texture. To stop everything make a func_wall with rendermode set to texture, and render amount 0. If you're doing this in half-life, and want to stop monsters, make a func_monsterclip, and make sure the monsterclip flag in the monster's properties box is ticked.
I'm sure there are even more...

even doom was rated 18 when it came out, but that was incredibly violent without being realistically gory, which seems to be the key thing. Violence as opposed to gore.

But the walls are only about 160-200 units high and it goes through several corners, ergo sky brushes will not fit. I'm assuming that sky cannot be lots of brushes all grouped together to make concave shapes, right?

in null texture Post #19095
this map is the rough shape of a road going through a mountain cutting, so i cant just put up 4 walls and a roof of sky. My notion was that the null texture would mean that light calculations would not be carried out on those faces on the unseen parts of the road structure, saving compile time (if that's how it works)

Although perhaps they would be best used selectively, such as part of the plot. Also, could you do something along the lines of an assault rifle,or increase the fire rate of the mp5, 'cause slugging away at things does pall quickly.
