The ZHLT folder can be placed anywhere. A good place to put them is where its on its on. For example:
C:/Zoners/
This is also a good idea with Hammer:
C:/Valve Hammer Editor/

This is not possible in Half-Life at all. The closet you can get to it is making a car shaped train that will act like a train (i.e. It will run and predefined rails and will have speed control only). A car is possible in Counter-Strike. Theres a tut on the Counter-Strike Mapping Site, just can't remember the name of the site or the link.

There's probably an error in your map. I used to get these when I started mapping (not that I'm accussing you or anything :)). Check for leaks and other errors. Post your compile log in here too. If all fails, submit your map in the vault.

What you could do is use the texture replace tool and replace the 'bad' texture with a 'crete' one. This is indeed a crude method but useful especially if the 'bad' texture is in those 'hard to reach' places!

Sorry, not an expert can't reply.

Only kidding

Some advice:
*Have a plan
*Do a rough sketch on grid paper
*Split the map up into 'parts'. This way you can compile small areas. This makes it easier to target errors and will prevent you from going insane when you compile a massive map thats has leaks and errors all over it.
*Carve is a no-no most of the time. Use Vertex Manipulation, you will love it!
*Be realistic. Half-Life is over 5 years old, so don't try to make a 'super duper, ultra fantastic, mega gigantic death map' because there's no chance that it will work. Work to Half-Life's limits.
*Having said that, theres a lot of things you can do in Half-Life. Be creative. No one wants to see a grey box with a gun and a few million enemies
*Have fun!

Does the evaluation version either:
a) Does not include all the features
b) Is only a trial (full program which lasts for only a few days)

Is one of these right? I don't really know (I use* 3D Studio Max 6).
