Since 14:00 someone sets fire on random locations, so far 7 houses got "attacked" , 2 of them are next to mine... damn i love this boring days...

What do you guys would think about another good old Half-Life 1 Competition

My Idea was a Mapcontest like this:

Old School Mapping Competition for Half-Life 1

Goal:
create a creative and well detailed and balanced Half-Life 1 deathmatch map.

Rules:
Check your Wpoly, 2500 wpolys are max.
~its okay if its higher in a corner you cant reach normally
Only use the Half-Life 1 Wadfile
~zhlt/vhlt/xeno/halflife/decals/liquids
No custom models/sounds/wads/sprites/skys

Prices:
1. Place: 20 euro Game @ Steam
2. Place: 10 euro Game @ Steam
3. Place: 5 euro Game @ Steam

I had the idea about 2 votings, first 2-3 people vote what they think about the mapdesigns. Also the Community can vote and give points to a map.
So we could share the winpot. you can have 20 euro if you get max points on both sides. Or 15 euro when you are voted 3rd place by the community and 1st place by the admins.

Also i think how to get a bigger pricepool, how about a competition where everyone who joins pays 5 euro and than we split it up like in poker :P

So guys plz write down and give feedback what you think about this. Thanks.

These Crystals are some models i found in the web. Some are made by DGF.

Tbh i cant detail it more, the engine is eating this map allready and i dont like to have high wpolys.
Also the dark textures, because its not on earth.

And yes you need multiple players to finish this map, okay you could cheat to play alone, but the map makes less fun, since a big part is the teamplay :)

There is a lot going on@ Svencoop, soon the Steam Release :D

My current map project for Svencoop a map and tribute to Alien Vs Predators :)

Its a big map with a lot of gameplay and teamplay
Time to beat it is around 3 Hours ;) And only 1 Map. Size is full Hammergrid ;)

Features:
3 Outposts with generators to fuel up and get extra light or ammo respawn, turrets.
Generators are destroyable by aliens.
A mission Hud, where you can allways check what to do and how much fuel is left in the generators.
Random Enemie and Weapon placement.
And much more.

tbh i really like Captain Terrors map but i dont understand how he won since it was unfinished and mostly copy paste.

I think if we ever do a contest like this again, it need a better judgement ^^

this is allready a lot in svencoop, so how many players should play it ? And what is the Epoly count ? Svencoop have big performance issues and with additional wpolys/epoly masses the game starts to kill the latency.
( Allways check the MS in the console if these go far beyound 10 ms, it starts to getting worse. )

funny part is, you can do bigger maps in hl1 than in hl2 in size with some coding ;)

Halflife 2 has a totally different movement, lighting mostly looks weird and only looks epic with dynamic lights or spotlights and these eat a lot of fps.

Maybe i give source 2.0 a try. I tested Hl2 mapping and for me it was mostly doing layout with brushes than paint it with models...

Skals tbh, without all the shaders you could do better results in hl1.
Still it looks pretty good.

So stuff i would change: ( CONS )
  • The Room design looks pretty blocky, try to add some round corners or some trims.
  • The floor looks like a roof, the texture doesnt fit, this just confuses me.
  • I think you use tooooo much glow, it is a cool feature but dont overuse it, this small inside area looks like a rainbow of neon colours.
  • The Copy Paste Lights @ the bridge, you should remove some of them, it doesnt make sence to have 200 lights there and doesnt look good too.
  • Feedback you will like :D ( PROS )
  • The outside "Generator thing" looks stunning and intresting, i want to see more of this !
  • The Roof of the Room looks intresting, i like it a lot.
  • Textures are pretty nice.
  • I like the tentacle lights :D just less glow and neon.
I dont want to crush your day, just try to help :)
( and i know you can do round thing @ your hl1 maps )

So @ Captain Terror:

I checked how a Sub Harbor looks like @ google, found some good concept pics from a Russian Military Base :) These help me a lot to get stuff done, since i cant draw D:

@ Kachito, yes i use VHE 3.5 but the new water effect is coded. So in normal hl1 you cant get such a nice effect :)

Soo here some new screenz, dark and scary ... hopefully...

( Some Textures done by myself, some from CG Textures, some are from FakeFactory and some are from PhillipK! )

Models in these Pics are done by myself + dgf and the forklift is done by totac =)
