This is something that I was suffering from long ago. When I try to search for a specyfic thread using keywords, like "animation + reset", for example, the results are far from correct, they show a bunch of non related threads. Sure is my fault, so, how can I make proper search?, in other forums the keyword method work, not here, so any help will be much appreciated. :)

Make the basic shape in 2D into the editor, then select all faces, extrude in the X axis (side) and you are done (this way you create the "sides" of the model) each time you extrude a full side is done. Imagine a square, if you extrude you make the four sides of the box, if you extrude again, another 4 sides are done next to the first ones, and so on, the more sides, the more curved will be the sides of the box; with weapons you will only need to extrude three times. To continue you must duplicate the original 2D shape you did before and mirror it in the X axis aswell, align it if needed with the verts, and, TA-DA!, a full model in three simple steps!, ;)

Oooooh-h-h-h, I wish I could learn well C++, that´s my first handicap, no matter how much times I tried... At least HL SDK is written in english and I can identify something here and another little thing there to do very basic things. O_o

Pack similar faces into a single face, so you can do more detailed textures. i.e: the foot sides, pack both sides into a single one (unless they are asymetrical).That character should fit well on a 512x512 bmp with pretty high detail. If you want you can left things like some accesories and the face and hands for another UV map, and if you can use alphas you can do very detailed things!! ;) Try also to not left so much space between each part into the UV map, it´s a true waste! ;)

So, what if he doesn't update it as often?
Usually your rank decreases, but it is not important. Sometimes you did a BIG update and never pass through the first 1000th position on the ranking :( , sometimes you don´t post anything in weeks and, unexplainabily, your rank seats between the 2000th and 3000th position. If you are lucky you will remain between the first 300 mods for two maybe three days. XD There are mods like Brutal Doom that never decreases their positions, which are between the 10 first positions for weeks, even months!! :)

Uv mapping is a nightmare, overall in organic models like animals, or very complex machinery. I remember how difficult was to skin and unwrap the sentinel of my mod, then came the Mjolnir ship,the Ascari digger, the Gargoyle autocannon... but all ended fine, haha.

But the right program could save you tons of problems. I use Lithunwrap for all models since 2004 and never have had any problems with them.

It is free, but it is very limited. There´s also a new version much more complex and full of plugins and tools, but this one will work fine for GS models.

One question. Should all Quake1 models be Low Poly?, what about Hi-Poly models. An Intel Atom 1.6 Ghz with an intel 3D card with only 128 MB run perfectly Quake3 and other games much more exigent... :/

Ok. I'll try that :) The editor is Quark (QUakeARmyKnife). It is the best editor I did try, The only problem is that it does not show models like Hammer

I must say that al the game_text of the countdown worked fine most of the times, but sometimes (this is an exaple) a number disappear so you can see the countdown show the 10,9,8 and then the 7 disappear just to continue normally in the 6,5,4, then the 3 disappear again to continue normally in the 2 and the 1.

This is the set up for those game_texts (I use the targetnamed as "10" as a example):

I repeat that it is not indispensable, but the GameOVer kinematic will look better with it working right. ;)

Hi, recently I have noticed a little problem with this entity. I have to say that I have read all posts related to this entity here At TWHL, and tried all the solutions:
-Removing the entity after being fired.
-Tried all 4 available channels.
-Fired the entity through several methods (trigger auto, trigger once, using a separate multimanager, func button.).

Nothing worked. What I did is make a text appear (first of two) then several entities are fired through a multimanager including other game_text entities (10, making a countdown be shown on screen), all worked fine, but when the second game_text has to appear it simply don't show, but the last events continue to happen normally.

Any suggestions?, altough not fully necessary, I like this message to appear because it is one of the pieces of the Game Over kinematic.

BTW: I did try Vista in the past, but have a lot of trouble with Hammer, Quark, Half-Life, Milkshape, Goldwave, Gimp, Photoshop, SpriteExplorer, Wally, PakExplorer, etc,etc,etc. Finally uninstalled it, returned to WinXP SP3 and all worked like a charm except MSVC6++, which needed some tweakinng. Now I´m with W7 32Bits (stupid me, I cannot use whole RAM!!), and since 2011 I never had any BSOD, BS, hangouts, nothing.
