Ya, it's not exactly intuitive. But once you know it's really simple and easy to do :)

Hi all and thanks for all the help you've given this NewB so far. Another question...How do I get objects to face in a different direction. I know some objects have east, west, north, south placement options but some don't, like the simple black chair. How do I rotate it? I've tried "tools">"align objects", "flip objects", and "transform" but none of these options give the desired result. Is it somewhere in the object properties??? I can't seem to find anything there that does this what should be simple task. TIA for any help.

What S/W do you use to create them BL?

Yes, I'm putting them in a visible area. I've found that it's only the objects in the "old stuff" category. There's only a few items in there anyway so I'll work without them. In relation to my original question, where on the net (if anywhere) can one find other objects that can be used? There's alot of objects that I would like to have available but aren't included in Hammer. Thanks again all for helping this clueless NewB. :)

I'm adding various objects to my map....chairs, desks, tables, ect....why sometimes would the objects not be visible once I compile and run the game? Sometimes I delete and recreate and that works. Others I can't get to be seen at all....ie the coffee table. Thanks again for all your help.

Thanks Slayer...got rid of the step and he followed. Makes me ask more questions....how would you get him to follow you up stairs? Or will he? I seem to remember playing HL and getting Barney to follow up stairs. I'm probably getting ahead of myself as I've just started doing maps. Thanks again.

Thanks for all the help...still having problems getting Barney to follow. I created a new map with more room to work with and set up a path of info_nodes from one room to another. I don't get the "sparkly things" anymore but Barney won't follow me no matter what. Is there something in the properties I need to set? I tried grouping them (even though I don't really know what that does) and that didn't work. I'll post my map and any help would be appreciated.

Follow Up Questions: I've also tried to get Barney to patrol by using the path_corner entity as described in the tutorial. In this part of the tutorial (and others) the description of how to set up the properties doesn't match what I have for properties set up. I don't know if the tutorial was based on a different version of Hammer or what. I'm using the most current version 3.4. I've also tried to use the help in Hammer but it's weak, at best. Is Hammer the best tool to be using, and learning on? If not what should I try, I'm frustrated with getting things to work at this point. :zonked:

Hi Again All,
Still doing the tutorials in the beginner section of this site. I'm trying to place info_nodes to get Barney to follow me. When the game starts I get a node graph out of date error and the place where I put the node shows all these "sparkly" things. What could be going on? Thanks

Thanks JB et all for all the great info..."RAD, the last in line, does the lighting." JB That expained it. My map didn't have any leaks. When I went to compile I used the defaults cause I really didn't know what settings to use. The selection for run RAD was "no" by default. Just changed it to "normal" and now lighting is like it should be, shadows and all. Thanks again for all the help and I learned several other things within the thread. mm_63 :)

iea...you did mean to say lighting correct? I'm not trying to make lightNing. I was going through the beginner tutorial on this site step by step and it says the light should show shadows and effects, ect...Mine is just fullbright. So I'm wondering where I've gone wrong.

Also, SM, the "look at this" link you gave me is to the tutorials that generated this map. I'll also look into the Zoner's tools. Being so new to this I was just trying to get Hammer under my belt.

I didn't find any errors in that window. So I'm not sure why the lighting is not shaded. Sorry again for asking such a NewB question...but what are zoners tools and where do I get them?

Hi All,
Just got started in map making, couple of days ago. And I'm going through the beginner tutorials. I'm stuck on lighting. Looks like I've got floodlit or "Fullbright" problems. It says to look for a leak. I can't find any error log files. If they exist what would they be called. It also says to use the console, by typing in pointfile, but I don't know how to use it. Thanks for any help for this lost NewB and sorry if I'm boring the more experienced map makers and modders.
