My shoutbox msgarea is coded like this (jus to help anyone else trying to do it):

onFocus="if (this.value == this.defaultValue) { this.value = ''; }"
>Shout here!</textarea>

this code is just added to the textarea feild, slightly diffrent to the TWHL one, but works just as well. ;)

I use wi-fi lan only because of the sheer amount of wires spewed all over my floors, everythings much tidiyer if its wireless and it runs at 108mbps which is quite nice, i havnt suffered from any interferance at all and its 100% reliable, i agree to using wired lans when you have a very large company to network, because the sheer logistics of sorting out any shit with a wireless lan that big would do your head in!! but woreless is just great for a small lan of up to 10 computers, like mine.

Ohh sorry, i did some research and bluetooth will only screw with the wlan if its within around a meter of the device, have you got the bluetooth on your phone running, pda? etc etc

in WLAN Post #91024
bluetooth should seriously be withdrawn form being used for anything other than hands free kits, why have bluetooth which transmits at only 1mbps over a max of 100m, What good is that when you have 802.11b that can propagate a signal hundreds of feet at a healthy 11 Mbps? And then there's 802.11a, and 802.11g, which promise even more phenomenal bandwidth! Good-bye Bluetooth!

in WLAN Post #91023
wlan operates at 2.4ghz, which is the same as bluetooth. Having any bluetooth signals within 100 meters will definitly screw with the signal, another wlan in the area shouldnt do any damage

I see on the TWHL shoutbox 'name' input there is an initial value which says 'Shout here'. Just wanted to know how this effect is made. Is it just a regular Textarea command or does it require seperate coding?

Thanks

Yes it is true that the 'smaller guy' is coming up in the market, numerous factors are affecting this which include:

1. legislation on microsoft, stopping thier monopolisation of the market.
2. The workforce is becoming more 'high skilled' in recent years, (as you say microsoft is directed towards the ignorant computer user)
3. Lastly and which is of litle impact is the bad press that micosoft regulary gets.

Errm what do you mean 'unix is an operating system of the internet'? unix is just a regular shell based operating system that linux was based on. i think anyway, is my history right?

Sorry jealous was a bit of harsh word, all im saying is there's no point in slating microsoft because they appeal to a majority of noobs :P

in Regarding Registering the CD Key Post #90359
Simply put- You dont have to, all your CD keys are stored in a database when you enter it for the first time. This database corralates to your user id and password. So if you remeber your username and pass, then you only have to log in at the new computer to be able to play HL2 :P

Constructive critisism :P

But the thing is no OS can be totally perfect, maybe some OS's are less accident prone than windows but im speaking form my point of view here. Windows has never given me any security failures or stability problems because ive been taught by people who knew what they were doing. And seventh NAZI MONOPOLISM! why is every computer user jealous that that windows is so popular, if it were the case that linux - unix were supurior designed systems, dont you think that they would have risen through the ranks and monopolised the market, its not like they came out at the same time either! a lot of more years have gone into the development of unix - linux then have been for windows, and so naturally windows is still developing to utilize the best an OS can exploit. Thats my view ;)
