If you dont have photoshop but you want to edit pictures and make custom textures you can get GIMPshop. Its GIMP except its more like photoshop and it comes with an installer so you dont have to screw around with the files.

Compiling it for Linux now 
I always liked GIMP the way it is, but I prefer photoshop's interface, and easiness. Ok, it won't compile, due to the fact the configuration script doesn't like my version of libtiff. Same with the binary package. Oh well, it was worth a try.
