Well you bunch of geeks? whadda you reckon?

Personally, it is the epitomy of sex. Truely is a masterpiece and really does show what a fantastic engine the source engine (engine engine engine(what a cool word)) is.

Thoughts please.

Agreed. It's really...cool for lack of a better word. I love the new theme and the props are exceptional. de_inferno for teh win!~ The only thing that's crap is the skybox, as in all maps (Save for Train D:) because it's just crappy displacements and the trees look weird.

de_port, on the other hand...it's lousy.

It's really nice. It's good to see a little bit of change with an old good map. Not sure about the sky, it's a little too blue. Then again, of course, I could change that...

I forgot about de_port entirely.

de_port wouldn't open for me at first because of some model error :/

Anyway it worked later on and I was shocked to see that it was not how I was expecting it to look :o

de_inferno however is superb and I really want to know how they placed fish in it!
I see the model but what entity :)

De_inferno is a truly great map, very confusing to begin with, still not sure where everything goes.
I end up walking into dead ends, but it is superbly detailed, I can't think of a map even half as detailed as De_inferno.

De_port is also a good map, sligthyl less confusing, but what I love about it is it's free nature, there seems to be so many ways you can attack something.

Both high quality maps in my opinion.

Port is blatantly an idea from Highway 17, with the dry parts of the beach. The crates all appear to have "kompani" written on, which I imagine means just what it looks like.

Yeah it does feel that way Seventh, but a great map none the less.
Posted 19 years ago2005-05-14 10:25:26 UTC Post #109365
Port didn't work for me, I got an error "map version 4, expected 19" or something like that...

Inferno looked absolutely amazing, I only played for 10 min with bots though.
Posted 19 years ago2005-05-14 10:58:06 UTC Post #109367
SariBous I got similar error as well but I tried again later on after compiling a map for CSS and it worked...

Perhaps open HL2, CSS, Hammer and then CSS again :)

Probably dynamic props affected by a convert so when you shoot a box around them they turn into physics fish.

I dont mean to ruin the fun, but I have some other things to say about this source version of de_inferno.
Very nice looking indeed, lots of detail (how much is really needed?) a great ambience and loyal to the concept of the original map.

But someone should go over to vALVE and say these simple words: vis blocks, hint brushes and occluders PLEASE. This is the first official map where I am getting such a bad, bad, bad performance without any other players in the game or programs running in the background.
I'm not making this up
http://www.geocities.com/jm_ameyugo/inferno3.jpg

Is anybody else having this kind of problem? the rest of the official maps run around 40 fps in my PC with max settings. What's wrong with this one??

Anyway, I agree with 7th about de_port. It looks like they copied (once again) a portion of a singleplayer map... The skybox reminded me of Grand Theft Auto III, with the fog and lack of reflections (hopefully to improve r_speeds) :

I really loved Inferno. The subtle layout changes are good, and they managed to create a detailed map with a completely different theme which still had the same 'feel' to it (for me anyway). So far, all official remakes have been very nice, but I feel Inferno is by far the best looking of them all.

On the subject of Port, I feel it is sort of like a better version of Compound. Whilst still not my idea of an ideal map, it provides somewhat new and interesting gameplay. Badly optimised though.

Kasperg, it runs pretty decently on mine. Not superbly, but better than the CT spawn of dust/office. That's running at my monitor's native resolution of 1280x1024, though.

Could anyone make a screenshot similar to the one I made?
It's from inside a small room with a window, but the engine is rendering too many things that are not visible. It's really strange since the rest of the maps run fine :(
Posted 19 years ago2005-05-15 05:22:57 UTC Post #109501
Give us the co-ordinates and angles (use 'getpos' in the console, and then copy the red line it gives) so we can reproduce it exactly... or did you just mean a screenshot showing lots of stuff being drawn?

false alarm, my bad.
Now I'm getting 20 fps in the same place, I dont know why. Much better than yesterday, with occassional jumps to 10 fps or so. The framerate isnt as bad as I thought but it's very irregular throughout the map.
Those drastic fps changes are the ones that can potentially get you killed when you turn a corner, emerge to a big area (with more polys) and the enemy team takes advantage of your momentary 5 fps rate :x
Did you guys try shooting at the 4 church bells in the map? you can actually make a song

Hmm, I have just played De_Prodigy, that is a awesome map. There is so much detail, but not enough to slow down your computer (Mine at least). And it is incredibly well made. Just thought I'd add that little snippet as this seems to be the thread about CS:S maps.
I hadn't played Prodigy before, but it is a great map.

P IV 2.00 Ghz
512 DDR ram
Geforce 4 Ti 4200 128 MB

@ 1024x768

I had the best settings I could (except triliear filtering, antialiasing and others) But the thing is the other maps run considerably better with the same settings and with bots running around
Posted 19 years ago2005-05-15 09:15:25 UTC Post #109539
I have mine on full settings and it lags randomly for me too!
My only guess is it needs Visblocks!
occluders
What is this?

Occlusion: the effect of one object in 3-D space blocking another object from view.

hey everyone, port works for me now, the problem was that it hadn't downloaded the whole map when I tried to play it.

It's Very laggy though, never had that low fps on any level
Posted 19 years ago2005-05-15 12:07:40 UTC Post #109570
Yeah, really really slow. I think they should have just offered it as a video, would've been hugely easier.

Port doesn't run badly on mine.

If I remember correctly, when I changed the settings to minimum (both in effects and resolution) in one CS:source map, I got only 4 fps more. It means that if a map runs badly, it will do so no matter what (at least in my PC)
That's why I'm using the best settings:
"If the game's going to stutter, let it do so beautifully" :)
