im setting up hammer so i can map for counter strike, and ive got everything set but the textures. i dont know where the default textures are to use, so i dont need to make a .WAD every time i want to show someone my map.

can anyone tell me where the default textures are? I have the cd if i need to get them off there. if not where can i download them?

Thanks

Extract the WADs from half-life.gcf using GCFScape. See the Steam tutorial for some details. It appears that I omitted to describe actually extracting textures when I wrote the tutorial, though, so I shall have to update that.

All data are stored in gcf files, since steam came. Including textures (wads). Get GCFscape to extract them (halflife.wad). Google it.

GCF, not GFC.

They're just in SteamApps, not your user directory.

Halflife.wad, liquids.wad, Xeno.wad(or something like that) and decals.wad are the most important!!! ;)

Yes and halflife.wad too! You should extract all the wads cause they are all very importent. liquid.wad has all the liquid textures in it and Zhlt.wad has the null, skip, hint and bevel textures! ;)

If you haven't downloaded the newest compilers, you won't find zhlt.wad. You can download the newest compilers here.
