Ever see the impressive reflective floors.. the ones that you copy, and paste the primitives and rotate them 180 degrees, and tie the floor too a func_wall.

But you still can't get the floor to look real?.. Try this:
Make two floors, 1unit thick, and put one on top of each other.
Next tie the floor on top to a func_wall.. with the properties set to this:
Render Mode::::Color
FX Amount::::::70
This makes the floor a solid color, black, yet almost invisible.

Now for the floor on the bottom, make sure it has a neat texture, perhaps of squares.
Set this func_wall to this:
RenderMode::::Texture
FX Amount::::: 90

Now this will let you view the texture, only slightly invisible.

When done, you have a shiny floor that doesn't appear fullbright.
Happy Mapping!

Nice mini tut, maybe expand on it and make it into a real tut.

Uh, I don't think a tutorial is necessary at all. There are already three Example Maps at last count.

Please, tell me if it looks like the floor is shiny or that you are standing on glass! :confused:

It's my first shiny floor! As for objects I haven't done any for if it doesn't look good then it will be just a waste of time! :(

make it less transparent, it still looks like glass. but that might just be becasue you used a glass texture for the floor, you need to use a normal floor texture

No it's the reflect texture!! :lol: And the FX amount is 200!! :

Changed the texture!! :D

Too bright, raise the opacity of the floor
Posted 18 years ago2005-06-10 11:27:03 UTC Post #113580
Ok, thanks!! I'll raise it to 150! ;)

You guys totally missed the point of this thread.. Keep that floor you just posted right above, now make another floor right above that one with color : 90. It will look so much better.

Oh, and give the Bottom layer ("Reflection") Light a nice glow.

You don't raise th Opacity! Like I said, mix the two floors, one on top of each other... bah...

...like so:First theres the One Unit thick brush at the bottom

Then theres another Oneunit thick brush on top of that.. here I used a water texture... but.. meh..

And then the finished product! Walla!

Pah, I made that shape for you, give me credit ;). It's a nice, allthough ages old effect.

Too transparent.. yes. I tried increasing Opacity but it made the water look fullbright...

I'm going to be putting another brush under it FX: Color FX Value: 90
To make it darker, and actually look like water, instead of liguid metal (mercury)
