...? npc-water? toy mean you make a cube with nodraw. then texture only the top with the water texture,"whichever suites your needs".

The Predator model in the test uses a special material with a shader.

The Predator material is defined VertexLitGeneric but if you redefine it LightmappedGeneric it would probably work.
