Hammer does not support lighting previews in editor. You'll have to compile and see it in game.

Or you can google bsp viewer which is a really useful tool so you dont have to go into HLor what ever your running.

Wow that suck

I am a mapper for Unreal games. I must say the editor is wayyyy beter than Hammer. :D

i heard Unreal editors are pointlessly stupid to use. Carving your world out of one big block?? wat the hell?

Huh?

In unreal editor it all work with Subtract and adds , wich is way better and easyer than hl2. Also , faster.

In reply to blackravent

I have tryed that BSP VIEWER by googl'ing it

But unfortunately. My hl2 game is not inside a Serria folder... Meaning i need a version for hl2 wich is not easy to find.

I might be very tired aswel..... thanks for your time.

BSP Viewer is for HL1, not 2.

You need to compile your map to view your lights. To do this, hit F9 and the Compile window will appear. Hitting "Run" will compile the map. After the compile, you can open up HL2 and check out your map.

Oh i know that.

and that is kinda long..... i mean , .... i don't know how to make lightning well yet , and i will be switching Hammer to HL2-ingame for life just for 1 light type?

No thanks... :

Why dont you make a group of light types, check how they look ingame and then decide which light type/setting to use? That'd be only 1 compile.

By the way, I doubt UnrealEd is easier than Hammer. I havent bothered using it since it crashed everytime I opened it. (it came with an original UT2003)
Mappers will always find that other editors are harder when they know how to use one. I remember trying to make HL1 maps with Quark... it had some nice features but was a bit pointless overall.
