Anyway, im trying to take on screenshot HL1, the control to do that is F5 but whenever i press it and go to check on my screenshot theres never any there! What am i doing wrong??

Check it's bound right. I seem to remember Steam binding F5 to something like "snapshot" instead of "screenshot", but they might have fixed that. Check in the console with bind f5. If it's bound to "snapshot", try bind f5 screenshot.
If not, you're looking in the wrong directory is my bet.

Did it work...
I have problems with F5 in HL and DoD.
Both produce a .bmp, but it is black.
The only fix I have found is using Prt Scr/Sys Rq instead.
While we are on the subject, I can't remember where the command to turn OFF automatic end of game screen shot is.
I looked in my folder the other day and it was full of MP end game screenies.

Im using steam to and im not having the end-game problem you have Andy, are you sure steam uses that by default?

Rabid: The screenshot command is supposed to output TGAs.
Andy: The option was in the multiplayer advanced options. If you can't find it, you could use the console command "hud_takesshots 0".

How about using Insert button next to F12!I always use the insert button to take screenshots.not just in the half life ,in every program and game.

i can do screenshots now (as you may have noticed) all i did was press the print screen button during gameplay and pasted it onto paint

Yeah but the default takes BMPs =[I wouldn't be suprised if software produced bitmaps, as it requires bitmap skies instead of Targas.

No, I was playing GL. Snapshot or whatever's default takes BMP, Screenshot takes TGA. It's weird.
