It appears my system has been hacked and somone is using my steam account unlawfully. It also keeps spreading viruses across all of my files (121 at least per time) as a result I am to format my PC tonight including my current mods. Forutnatly HL:Manifestation and The Complex are on my G/Fs machine so development can continue on thos titles.

However HL:Crabz and Sub Zero Project are full on cancelled.

Sorry.

Not an option. This virus has infected everything. :(

It's even started to effect my firewall and my anti-virus software.

I hate hackers.

38_98, stop bashing Steam. I have encountered no bugs in Steam since the beta testing stage.

Urb, that'll learn ya for not backing up!

They got into your computer through Steam? Can people even do that?

Possibly a combination of things, I'd reckon.

Urban, sympathies. I don't back up very often, but I am extremely careful and my PCs have been virus-free for years (except for silly start.exes in cracks, etc., heh). Moral: if you don't back up, know a decent amount and be watchful.

I guess it's too late to advise you to just fix it instead.

You hate haxors. Hackers do no harm to the computer systems they intrude on.

I've "hacked" my registry several times, I also hacked my task manager into making a little CPU gage in system bar without having to dl any proggie.

AVG anti-virus is the best freeebie.. come with an entire security suite and all they ask for is a contribution of ?20 .. which might i add, is optional

Correct. I think 'cracker' is the right term for one who maliciously intrudes other's computer system.

Yes, it is. A hacker, in its true form, simply means "a skilled programmer".

I still have Notron. but it's disabled, since AVG uses far less system resources. But I enable Norton when I do full scans, just to be safe

Using ZoneAlarm. The good news it it seems I've solved the problem with the steam cracker or hacker or whatever the bloody hell they are. Only problem is the big hole in my security thanks to them.

I got an lop and 3 possible browser hijack attempts. Its much better that the 50 things i had the other day.

I might get away with not formatting after all.

Urb, don't worry, you are not alone in your problem... I had to have my comp formatted because something rendered my hard drive completely useless - I could no longer open anything or do anything. I lost pretty much everything - a lot of my half-life maps were lost etc etc. But, I had to look on the bright side - I now have XP Professional and my computer feels all fresh and new, at least I can try and maintain that tidyness instead of loads of crap in loads of files and stuff.. yadda yadda yadda

HAven't got virus in ages too.. But my worst enemy is windows :x once it just stopped working... and locked some of my folders.. those locked folders were the most valuable thing in my HDD...
