I just recently started mapping for a Half-Life single player mod that I am creating and I am having some issues. I have started a map and it is very small and not complex. I go to compile and it takes FOREVER! Does anybody have any solutions or ideas? (I AM using ZHLT and the latest version of Hammer). - HeAdCrAb KILLA

What do you mean by "forever" ?
If it takes like 1hr or 45mins - don't be too surprised...

I just don't get it. My completed maps for SVEN Co-op would compile in under 10 minutes! And they were big maps! Now, these TINY maps for HALF-LIFE are taking like 5 minutes a piece! What the hell? Should I revert back to the VALVe compile tools or am I just really impatient???

By tiny you mean a small(a little bigger then the player) hollowd block with a player start and a light entity? :lol: Cause if thats all you did then 5 minutes is a long time! Well if it takes to long that means that your computer doesn't have enough RAM to sepport the compiling prosses so it takes a longer time! Try closing other programs and check for viruses! :)

5 mins? Well for a small map thats pretty much... Anywho I wouldn't say that it's so terrible... Maybe ur comp isn't very fast or you might have some trojans... They usually slow things down... :)

Try using AVG free adition(to find trojans),spybot-search and destroy(finds lots of annoying stuff) or Ad-aware(very helpfull) :)

Stick with ZHLT!

Check your task manager process list for CPU usage. Anything using up a huge amount for no apparent reason? Post its name here if so.

and put your map in the problem vault so we can show you why it will lag on compile

Try also to look for light issues... If leaks shown, you would tell us, but maybe you?re putting some complex light system there or whatever. Try to compile another map you know it?s rendering time and compare it to see if it?s bigger. If remains the same, must be a problem with your map.
