Hmm... It might be your cpu or hl problem, cause on my cpu the scientist moved perfectly and pressed the btn... :
The beam was s'possed 2 kill him, right? Well that doesn't happen... I'll look on that... :)

Then make him do a death animation with the Leave corpse flag! He'll be killed by the script! :nuts:

Nah used a good ol' blowhimuptogibs scenario, where the last beam does 500dmg per sec.

Scripts can make omnsters invsincible, which might explaion why the beam doesn't kill, try triggering a trigger hurt or, like Elon said, a deqath animation after the script.
