well, i was compiling my map as usual. The compile as far as i can see went fine. It switched to half life and nearly loaded the map it suddenly switched back to hammer without any error windows or crashing.

i can't find any errors here. Try to load the map manually. write map cystal in console then write developer 1. And try to compile it one more time to see if that happens again. Maybe hl just crashed. And as allways download the latest ZHLT 3.2 There was a thread about where to get them not so long ago and there was a working link.
Posted 19 years ago2005-07-30 16:00:01 UTC Post #124748
when i typed map cystal, i got a svc_bad. Ive seen this before. I had it once because when i look at the sky it caused HL1 to crash, it could be that my xen textures i use in the map (because they are the first thing you see) could be causing it to crash the second the map is activated

Zhlt 3.2? Ill search google for it.

I changed the textures and tested it again. It wasnt the xen textures

Oh no wait, i see what ive done. Nevermind, it should work now

oh, no it didnt, im going to download those ZHLT tools and see what the results are

alright, i downloaded and used 3.2 And i got these results instead (with nothing changed inside the map)

ive seen this error before. Execpt this time is say that it couldnt execute the command. Maybe i should move my ZHLT tools to a different drive...

didnt work, it still shows the same error :(
does anyone have any suggestions to this puzzle?

All your mapping stuff should be on the same drive. Make it so.

Did you double check to make sure the maps sky name is spelled correctly... I know, your probably thinking, wth!.. but it has happened to others where the map would just crash... so check the spelling if you have a sky in your map.. It's worth a check. :)

It's normally to do with bad filenames, that kinda stuff. It's not a map error, it's a configuration error of some kind.

Search the forums for possible solutions; this error comes up from time to time. "The operation completed successfully" should pick out everything relevant.

ive checked forums. It doesnt seem there was an error of this kind. Where i thought i would find a solution on one thread didnt show because the solution had never been posted.

Ive done compiles on other maps. Its works fine with both sets of compile tools, ZHLT's and hammer's. Im sure that this error was generated by something within the map itself. For even though ZHLT's showed the same error on allv the other maps i compiled, they all ran perfectly find (execpt it doesnt clip sky brushes)

Som im sure that the error is within the map. Ive checked for errors and there are none. It could be the texturing. Seeing it crashes just the screen loads showing the map. Could it be a corupt file?

Posted 19 years ago2005-08-02 06:02:10 UTC Post #125303
I think I can help with your second compile log problem. I just had a similar error recently. Windows returned the error "access is denied." The actual error message doesn't help at all. I was able to fix it when I double checked the build program locations in hammer. Somehow, hammer was not looking in the right place for them. When I re-browsed all of them to the correct locations, the problem was solved. Since you've recently altered ZHLT, perhaps that's what's happening. As for your original problem, my suggestion is to delete any references to cystal in your valve/maps folder and try re-compiling, that way everything is fresh. Obviously, don't delete your cystal.rmf file if it is in there. ;)
Posted 19 years ago2005-08-02 10:57:35 UTC Post #125359
Hah, actually I've got the file access problems on occasion too. But I don't use through steam so it couldnt be a long path problem. I had put it down to the total bugginess of my computer.

Mephs' one size fits all answer: Copy and paste into a new map and save it. I don't know why the hell it works, but it usually does for me. :)
Posted 19 years ago2005-08-02 11:12:58 UTC Post #125367
If copying and pasting fixes the problem, I say go for it. I don't think it will work in this case. The strange thing I notice in the compile log above (and in mine when the problem occurred) is when hammer gets confused, it causes windows to give misleading error messages. This one is a classic, the error is that everything worked successfully! :quizzical: It's easy enough to re-browse to the correct configuration in hammer just to be sure it's entered correctly. This is what fixed the problem for me. I'll be interested to hear what does fix 38_98's problem.
Posted 19 years ago2005-08-02 11:16:51 UTC Post #125369
I have rebrowsed and rebrowsed again for the files. Doesnt matter. Cystals was actually corrupted. When i tried on different maps they worked. So i just deleted it and forgot about the file in no time. Although, 3.2 is giving me problems. So ive switched back to the normal tools and surprise surprise. They work perfectly fine.

Mephs, im going to keep the 'copy and paste' solution in mind for future. But i've dleted it now, it was rather an unsignificant map.

Just to let you know what's going on..
when hammer gets confused, it causes windows to give misleading error messages
Actually, that's not true. Hammer does not 'cause' windows to give misleading messages. Windows was asked to run one of the ZHLT tools (HLCSG.EXE or one of the others) and it did that successfully. HLCSG.EXE was loaded and it ran.

However, after it was loaded and running, HLCSG reported it could not execute the requested command. Windows did not have an error; HLCSG.EXE did. It appears to be confusing because of the way Hammer reports the results.

what the?- Aw fuck, i really need to get a replacement on my anti-virus wear. Cheap scape stuff throws into bin it seems that 6 viruses where roaming my computer, i went to check my virus situation when a second map starting acting like 'cystals' when i noticed that there were 7. The oldest virus being 3 months! No wonder my maps are going to hell, no wonder i've had to re-install HL1 and other programs. The viruses have been killing them off...

The ZHLT compile was the wierdest one

On another note, can anyone direct me to decent virus protection?
