Being a cadet, I've fired the following weapons:
L98A1 Cadet GP rifle (single shot version of the British Army L85A2/SA80A2). Recoil is noticeable but not large, also fired this weapon with blank ammunition at people (from a safe distance), there is almost no recoil with blanks.
L86A2 Light Support Weapon (LSW) (One kind of British Army machine gun, very similar to the L85A2 but with a longer barrel and bipod, I've fired it semi auto and full auto :D). Same recoil as L98A1.
Clay pigeon shooting shotgun. Recoil is ridiculously large, really hurts shoulder.

how was the recoil on the rifle?The M-4 is pretty heavy so it absorbs most of the recoil. The scoped rifle (forgot the model) had a moderate recoil, but was still pretty easy to control. Nothing compared to the recoil of a 12-gauge magnum shotgun. Thatll bruise you if you dont hold it right.
I also got to shoot a .45 cal Ruger handgun, a .40 cal Glock, two .22 cal pistols, a .44 magnum revolver and a .357 magnun revolver (like the one in HL1 and HL2) and even a Civil War era Colt Navy Revolver.
Overall I liked the revolvers and the M-4 the best.

Nice, i fired once the dutch version in the shooting simulator, its like duckhunt only then with real weapons.
And really, to me there would be no fun in shooting at paper targets, its probably just a waste of ammo/money.

Hmm.. Games where you actually get to shoot opponents are alot more fun - paintball, phazer/lazerball and such. But I guess you american gun-nuts like "the real thong" better.

You probebly never used it for if you did the scope would hit your eye cause you're too close to it! And when I looked through a sniper scope(real scope fake gun) I couldn't see a thing when I placed my head like that. :

To own an automatic weapon you need some special permit as far as I know. If not, sign me up for a Styer Aug as soon as I hit 18!

I got to shoot the Smith and Wesson Model 500 which is a .50 caliber revolver and the biggest ever made. That thing is so powerful it almost whacked me in the face from the recoil.

So nobody can own a gun because of the .000001% occurance of accidents/mishaps with them? While your at it why don't you ban cars? They kill way more people than guns--at least in the US.
And I know your going to say "what about the rising numbers of criminals who use guns for violent crime??"
If we made the penalties for using a firearm to commit a crime/not keeping them secure more severe, those numbers would go down dramatically.
But the liberal bastards who bugger up this country, would rather eliminate your rights, rather than prosecute those who abuse their rights.
