im using the "beggining" sample map, zoners tools, hammer 3.4
ran "check map for problems" no problems found, when i hit run, the hlbsp comes up with the error:
hlbsp: Error: Can't open C:SIERRAHalf-Lifevalvemapsbeginning.p0

almost sure i have my hammer set up correctly, tried using 2 diff fgds (im trying to compile for regular hl)
just starting hl mapping so asking the pros for advice :D
heres the whole compile log:

hlbsp: Error: Can't open C:SIERRAHalf-Lifevalvemapsbeginning.
p0
Are you sure you type the correct location in the bsp field? And it also says
END hlbsp
alot of times. Maybe you wrote in the location to hlbsp.exe on the other fields.

ya know, whenever i got this error i'd check it to find a text file with the compile log and the error writen down for you. So you don't usually have to ask..

Posted 18 years ago2005-09-05 14:14:43 UTC Post #132560
rad doesn't run if there's a previous error, usually. You don't have to run rad or vis if csg and bsp are producing the correct output.

The biggest thing is there's no output from csg. That accounts for all the later errors, I think.

It looks like csg isn't running at all. Double check that hlcsg.exe is in your zoners folder. Also check that your map file is, indeed, in C:SIERRAHalf-Lifevalvemaps when you save it.

It's immaterial, but there's no need to copy the map file (first command) to where it already is.
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-05 14:33:45 UTC Post #132564
Yeah, CSG has to come before BSP. You really have messed up the setup.

im on windows 2000 i have ntfs and my boot partiton has FAT if thats any help...
csg is in the right place, im calling all the right zoner tools..
chswrx01.wad decals.wad and the zoners zhlt.wad are the wads im using,
ok could you give me a rundown of the save-running process?
is it save in hammer/maps? in valve/maps? both? do i need to do any exporting?

thanks for your help :D
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-05 14:48:31 UTC Post #132567
Doesn't really matter where you save the maps, though it's generally a good idea to keep everything on the same partition.

Get CSG going; I doubt it's a file-system problem. Read the tutorials...

You have a leak! it's an opening in your level to the outer void. Or that you have an entity out side your level, an entity brush closing your level.

it says theres a leak on the sample map downloaded from this site! (beginning)
i tried making a new one:
make a box, make it hollow with 32 thick walls,
make an entity, (info_player_start)
run and it gives me the error

Good trouble-shooting technique is to change only one thing at a time.

The beginning map (use the .rmf, not the .map) is fine. I just downloaded it and compiled with no problems.

Something else must be the problem.

Go into C:SIERRAHalf-Lifevalvemaps and delete everything named "beginning.*"

Get a fresh copy of "beginning.rmf" (in case you changed something inadvertently), open it in Hammer, hit F9, turn off vis and rad, tick "Don't run the game" and compile without changing anything.

When you're just starting out, correct any problems before continuing.

If that compiles okay, turn on vis and rad and compile. If that's okay, untick "Don't run the game" and see if everything's okay then.

test if its a compile problem by making a simple hollowed cube, a light and a player_start. if that doesnt compile, you got yerself a bug

thanks for all your help, got it working.
looks like theres an error in zoners wad.
whenever i used it it came upwith the leak.
it wasnt in the half life directory though.. i dont know if that could cause the problem... anyhow, i got it working thanks alot!
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-05 17:56:26 UTC Post #132605
i think the reason that you were getting a leak with the tut files is because you don't have Halflife.wad loaded. so it doesn't register the textures and deletes the brush or something
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-05 18:35:23 UTC Post #132609
deletes the brush
I don't think that's correct. I've compiled maps without the wad I originally used for textures and brushes were never deleted. A default texture was substituted (the pretty purple and black check texture).
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-05 22:38:36 UTC Post #132625
I remember that texture! This guy has an avatar of that texture. :o
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-06 09:31:32 UTC Post #132703
That's the texture! :P

BTW, thetroyv, you still have some sort of problem. Although it's possible, having an "error in a wad" doesn't sound right at all.

It sounds, again, like you're avoiding a problem rather than correcting it.

Good luck.
