sounds like a backlight problem. You may have a bad tube, or a loose wire, or maybe i'm totally wrong. but a lcd for $100?!?

Stop nagging about the cheapness of it, you intolerent bastards. Try to help instead.

fate: I would try contacting their customer support - if you indeed bought it secondhand, take it to a computer repair shop and have them diagnose(sp?) it.

Mobile Phones save power by turning the lights off...
Computers have lights inside...
?100 computer screen = Cheap screen / maybe second hand, with a broken light inside.

Solution :

Contact technical Support
Try using a different LCD screen by borrowing it off a friend...
Get Nightvision goggles
Turn brightness to full...

Loffe, I think we all were commenting on the likely-dubious quality of something of that price. I certainly was.

habboi: $100. ~?50 (USD)!

Please, don't argue about CRTs vs. TFTs any more, just try and help fate, okay?

Now, let's wait for him to return and further enlighten us.

I got it from a local computer surplus store. And yes it was $100US.
It was new in the box. but they don't come with any warrenty. I belive the problum is the backlight. so am going to bring it to a repiar shop unless any one can tell me how to fix it myself.

well, to fix it yourself, if the light tube is burned out, you'd need another identical one. If its a loose wire... you could do it yourself with a screwdriver (probably). I've only been inside a laptop lcd, but from that experience, if you crack it open, be VERY careful with any boards that are attached directly to the screen itself.

The light tube itself should be easy to find, probably on the side of the screen. In the laptop I trashed, there were two wires going to it that were plugged into a circuitboard. if those are loose, that could be your problem. Hope that I helped somehow.

edit: if you have the money, take it to a repair shop, because if they screw up, they're liable. if you screw up, you're out $100.
