What do you think of Turkey trying to join to Europe?
Whould you like Turkey to be in Europe?

It is a very complicated subject.
I think that countries joining the UE should do so to contribute, and not just to profit from what Europe has been working on for these past decades.
I'm not saying that Turkey wouldn't do so, but a certain country is very keen on helping others join the European Union. It is good for the joining countries, but it weakens the rest, at least short-term speaking.
And like 7th said, there are still some cultural differences between Europe and Turkey, although I'm sure things could work out eventually.

Although It's more of an important discussion for turkish people, coz we don't know shit about it. You should better discuss this in some turkish forum/irc channel..

The major part of Turkey is in Asia... If I recall it right - the European part of Turkey is only 3% of the whole country..

The EU is just the French and German way of controlling trade and currency in other countries.

A big no on this, neither should polen and the other eastblock country's have been able to join the EU.

There is one reason that there is a EU, to soley protect our own economy and make sure it keeps growing.

If we allow other poor country's to join the EU then we can not garanty our own economy's safety. One of these examples is the recent blockade of chines clothers, the meditiranian EU members objected against the importing of the chinese cheap clothes. Obviously hundreds of tons of clothes where already stored in the serval seaports around the EU, and the stores that sold the clothes where quiet pissed since it was the winter collection.

This is just one of the examples of the protection of out own economy, and we can not do that if we allow other cheap country's to join. Here in The Netherlands cheap polish workers take jobs of some of the dutch people. Deu to a free traffic of good's and people between the country's this can not be stopped.

In simple words, we shouldnt deconstruct the fortress we created for ourselves, dont take me wrong, i have nothing against turkey, polen and the other country's. Its just a stupid idea and an old promise that some politicians think that should be fulfilled. And of-course its an extremely in-humane country.

Personally, I have no respect for the European Union. It was once an effective trade union, but now it is nothing more than a corrupt political organization ruled by France and Germany. And Germany does everything France does, so really the EU is just France's way of taking over Europe. Id be delighted to see Germany get pissed and invade France again. Heck, the US would probably help invade.

The EU is slowly taking away each countries individuality, and that is what I liked about Europe, that each country was different and unique and they all had these cool currencies. And then they all got replaced by the Euro (ugh). Im glad the British stuck with the Pound.

Here here, Hrny. Agree with ye. If it makes you feel any better, the Swedes refused the euro and are sticking to the crowns.

Its quit annoying those brits didnt went with the euro, now il have to exchange my euros again for those damned pounds, its frickin annoying since the bank takes a % of the money.

Pepper is right. Having euros makes everything so much easier. There are some problems, of course. But for example it lets you compare prices and salaries between European countries, so spotting differences (things that must change and improve) becomes easier.

Well, not really. We still have our languages, our traditions, different types of weather, etc. Think of the euro as a new format. Would you imagine countries using different types of CDROM formats or things like that?

Europe was controlled by France and Germany 40 years ago, while it was called "CECA" (in France), but if this "control" still exist, nobody look like to feel it anymore ...
