How bad was your worst computer? Preferably one that could actually run hl1.

and a battery that didn't work

Worst I had was 286 system... can't remember its exact specs but I remember it had 100mb HD which was a hell of a lot back then!

The computer they used (and probly still do) at NASA in the moon landings only had 64kb RAM

Worst I've owned is probably an old PDP from many many years ago. It wasn't fully functional, but it still powered on and did basic things. Think, a giant calculator.

Second was p2 (?) 433mhz, 64mb ram, 6gb HD & voodoo 3 2000 - It pwned.

I had an 8088 with 2MiB of expanded memory. Back then, there were different types of memory. No SDR, all that shit. EGA was top dog. The monitor had a switch on the back to change between COLOUR (zomg), orange/black, and green/black. DOS 6.22. You elitist bastards :P.

I had a C=64 and a ZX Spectrum too.

The oldest Ive used was an Apple IIGS, originally with 512KB RAM and an 8MHz CPU. We upgraded it to 4MB later on. It also had a massive external hard drive that held 17MB and took an entire minute to spin up.

The beast still works too, although it is in need of a reformat.

I think mine was 32MiB. It was so slow, its sounds were musical.

I had to use dos 6.22 for several years on my primary computer because win98 crashed.

Well, I think our very family computer (and the slowest, plus my first after I deleted "DOS" from the Windows 3.1 folder out of "curiosity") was a 486DX, which was as slow as hell and only good for word processing. I really wish I didn't format that computer. I had some great nostolgia (sp?) from my writing past.

Anyway, the next computer I had was a 166MHZ. Pretty good (still didn't have Half-Life then), but there was no 3D card (so I was disappointed I couldn't run Descent 3, and my mom was too paranoid about putting it up on the family computer) and it only had a lousy 3 GB on it. Heh...and I remember an article in PC Gamer about PC Gamer's history, stating that my computer might've been the "dream machine" in 1994.

Anyway, the computer I have now is still a piece of junk, but I'm able to run half-life on it (although I still get some graphical error junk and it crashes in some mods).

256MB RAM (useless)
1.8GHZ Intel Celeron Processor
A crappy 128MB RADEON 9200 PCI (zing!) graphics card
And, I think a 50/60 GB hard drive

Man, even though I spend my entire life on computers, I really hate them.

My laptop only has a 32, 64, or 128mb video card. ( I can change it in the bios)

I think I forgot to mention I have Windows XP (RAM eater) and that I have a PCI (NOT PCI Express) card. In my opinion, it sucks worse than my old Intel Extreme Graphics chip, especially in Unreal Tournament. Heck, I can't even run UT2004 on thing without major slowdowns!

get someone to build you a custom one. I'm thinking about building a computer a little better than yours, loading it with linux, and doing about $200-250 worth of case mods. Sell it for about $7-800! Building a custom computer, you can save hundred$. Btw, you know what processes are absolutely necessary to start with winxp?

Wtf that is good! 128MB screen card is damb good, you proccessor is OK your RAM is a bit out and you Hdrive is fine! What do you mean "I can run Half-Life" ! My friend runs HL2 on that! And doesnt even lag that much!

Graphics cards depend on much more than their onboard memory for good performance. The processor is poor, and the RAM is terrible.

Actually it didn't. I don't remember what settings i used thoug, but i think i ran on 640x480

my worst computer that i have to use still (which isent that old really but it sucks) is a old windows 98 that got upped to a 200 witch screwed it and its got an old ati 128mb video card which sucks cause it doesnt work with many things (got it second hand) 128 mb of ram (which is stopping me from playing hl2) and a 400mhz prossor that got screwed with the upgrade of my computer for some reason, it makes half life1 run like its on the net and makes trains and trams(and also cut seens) spin when they move in hl

no wait the old computers that just ran on floppy disks they were the worst ever you cannot beat them

it DID just run on floppy disk.. u had to have a windows 3.1 boot disk in it all the time... it went into a sort of safe mode if u wanted to save something onto a different disk

My first multimedia computer was a 60 Mhz Pentium.
I still have it and it works (not the monitor, though). It had a very useful life, since I got to play SimCity 2000, Tie Fighter, Doom I, Doom II, and even Age of Empires
The 2x Cdrom drive stopped working 7 years ago, and the disk drives had a total of 1,7 Gb.

It did? I thought...although I didn't get this...that by playing endless rounds of tic-tac-toe with itself, the computer realized that there was no victor at all, especially in the Global Thermonuclear War program, so it just ditched the game and asked to play another one.
