You've got to be joking. A game-maker program? And you're gonna spend money on it? Utterly useless.

MMORPGs need lots of players! You can't expect to create a game made with a program to be played by thousands of players, now can you?
Besides, all the games made with that will be the same.

Heh, I think that's quite true, ZL.

Not to mention the server costs and the insane content creation times... I've seen several teams of script-kiddies and wannabee programmers thinking they could create a MMORPG... I've seen just as many fail. Hey, even whole companies decide to do something else because of the costs...

Besides... if you really want to create a game... why not just learn programming yourself, or team up with a friend programmer?

Well, a long time ago I got a game-maker program as well. I was able to get a sort of Tiberian Sun-alike terrain engine to work, but now that I look back on it... it was horrible coding, a horrible idea and all. Maybe those programs are nice to get people introduced into game-making, but it's nothing serious stuff I think.

yea I was joking, i wouldn't spend money on that, download it maybe but I would get bored of it to soon, neat idea though.

There are two game making games out right now. RPG Maker and RPG maker 2. One is for Playstation and the other is for PS2. RPG Maker 2 was extremely powerful, so i've heard. But this isnt a good idea. MMO maker? There weill either be so many that nobody will keep up or there won't be enough and the game will die out.

Theres also RPG maker 2000 and RPG maker 2003 which were great for making your own games. I started an RPG that supposedly, had about 52 hours of gameplay in it, by the story I wrote. I only finished making 2 hours of it though
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-30 21:20:23 UTC Post #138504
Yeah but those were completely G-H-E-T-T-O.
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-30 21:58:56 UTC Post #138509
But the games that came out of them were either story rich or Pieces of S&!t.

How fun would it be to play a game where you know exactly how everything will be?

A game creating program? I'd say that you're better off learning C++... All games created by such programs suck and look the same.
I totally agree with ZL. :

RC will be easy and affordable compared to many other solutions. Good if you don't want to, or have time to, learn C++. If someone wants to make ideas come true instead of letting people crush them, they should join us at mmorpgmaker.com

Use C++ and OpenGl if you want to make something okay. Yes, I know OpenGl is pretty old, but it gets the job done.

I agree with ZL this program is quite usless. :tired: C++ is much better! :glad:

It's fine to create something for you and your mates, but I suggest you take a look at what it's going to cost you. MMORPG's take a lot, a lot of time to create and if you're unexperienced, then changes are you're going to fail anyway. 99% of all HL mods died, 99% of all custom games failed (check flipcode.com for example, someone compiled a list of all games that were started there, and a list of those that finally got out or were close to a release. 250 against 3 or such)...
So, know what you're doing. It's more fun to finish something than to have wasted your time on things you never were able to play.

Well, not that you won't learn anything from that... ;)

PWNED hostage situation has not died bringing the figure to 98%
