ive got hammer v3.5 and people say that gordons model is meant to be where the info_player_start is and it just still comes up with the green box with me how can i fix this?

You need the newest fgd file! Get it form verc.(links to it in this site) ;)

update your fgd files. Hammer 3.5 just supports mode lviewing in map but it doesn't do that by itself. So you need newest fgd files. Search for them in VERC.

Also, you need to extract all your models file from the pak0.pak file into your valve/models directory. Only then models will show up in Hammer.

I believe there is a setting for the max model render distance or something similar under Hammer's options which can be adjusted so that it displays models rather than boxes at greater distances. This of course will only display the models if you are using the latest fgd as well as having the model files from the pak0.pak extracted into the correct directory as Muzzleflash said.
