I find that the best way to keep a desktop clean is to fill it with big stuff. (2 monitors, laptop, keyboard, and scanner)

My desktop looks pretty much like Kasperg's.. :)

I need my open desk space. If my desk is cluttered, I find it difficult to think and work.

My desk has always been huge. I can't work in cramped spaces.

<looks around furtively, peels centrino sticker quickly off machine...>

@hunter: Yeah I like it too. Also, what did you think of the tracks that came with it? At first, they horrified me; now I listen to them all the time!!

You guys probably find this horrible, but i feel home in this little set. Dont mind the lightning, the flashlight of the camera is horrible.

I'd say the set roughly costs around 2000 euro's.

Do you reach around all that stuff or move the keyboard?
It can't be very practical having the keyboard right at the back?

Howcome everybody here has neat desks with expensive equipment on 'em? It makes me feel so poor.. I've got a simple wooden board with a huge monitor (huge as in: how can it possible need so much space for such a relatively small monitor?), computer, boxes, cables everywhere and loads of paper on it. Even dusting it off can be hell! (I have to remove all the equipment. With my 'ordening' of the cables, that can be quite annoying.)

Mines not expensive :D It's borrowed, on a permanent basis
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-15 12:08:24 UTC Post #141667
But that still leaves you with two monitors.. ;)

BTW, that phone next to your monitor might have some nasty side-effects on the long term. (I've heard of the colors of your screen changing due to the magnet in a phone..)
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-15 12:16:25 UTC Post #141669
When I had 2 monitors next to each other (the two that don't show up in my pic) they flickered something awful and had wierd colors. Use lcd's. @sethorian: All you need to do is find people who have old computer junk and are willing to give it away. For example: My huge monitor is not available new anymore (I think) and the lcd is a rather old one, too.

i have fun putting my subwoofer close to my monitor. its pretty big and hence has a big magnet, but then again, thats what deguass is for, rebalanceing you monitor for outside magnetic forces

There are monitors with degauss? :o

(I haven't looked into new monitors for ages, needless to say.)

Well, I can get a few weeks old LCD (with warranty) for ?150. Sounds nice, it is. Now if only if I HAD ?150... ;)

Edit: Picture coming up..
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-15 12:31:25 UTC Post #141677
if you're going for just 1 monitor, get a crt, they're still cheaper than lcds. But if you really want 2 (I actually only use 1 monitor/computer, usually) then go with 2 lcds, or 1 lcd and 1 crt, to get rid of the wavy effect!

And here's my real desktop!

Some notes:

? There's a blue HTML book on the left bottom of the picture. Just to clarify: I, in no way, need such a book. It's the book of my girlfriend and, if you look carefully, you'll see that there are a few A4 sized papers in the middle of the book. Those A4 papers contain some webdesign assignments that she asked me to do. I actually learned HTML myself. (That and a wee bit from w3schools.. Now begone! ;))

? The black-red camera case and the grey USB wire normally don't filthen my desk any further. But then again, it doesn't really matter that much, since my desk is enough of a mess as-is.

? Look below the desk and you'll find out that my slippers have a black soles. It matches the yellow walls, right? No? Meh.

? Yellow paint. Chose it myself; it gives my room a warm feel so I can fantasize about being on a tropical island. Of course during summer, my room actually turns into one, heatwise. Then you have me wishing to be near the artic circle...

? The wires are always like that.

? I'm a poor soul, so no fancy thingmajigs on my desk, sorry. Most things you see there have been given to me by various kind people. The exception to the rule being the keyboard, mouse and most expensive components in my computer. (I upgraded before Half-Life 2. To finance, I took a summer job..) Anyone willing to fetch me fancy expensive stuff is welcome.. ;)

Edit: Last bullet point is sarcastic, obviously. Please don't offer me your equipment.. I'm still paying back some Italian 'friends' from downtown for their 'services'..

Its not that bad seth, you should have seen my old desktop, just a keyboard and one joystick and it was full.

@7th, it isnt even the normal regular full load, though the yoke gest removed now and then and is moved to a temporary stationary position behind the radio. But the sidewinder is in front of me most of the time acompanyed by a cup of coffee, either empty or full. All depends on the time.

Actually, a Radeon 9800 Pro is already in my computer. It's one of those expensive components I talked about.. ;)

Meanwhile; I'm Dutch, so English is my secondary language, yes.. But I thought filthen was UK English? Or is it US English? (US English usually just confuses me, as it has some contradicting rules compared to UK English.)
Posted 18 years ago2005-10-15 18:18:40 UTC Post #141736
I'm pretty sure "filthen" isn't a word in either English. Ignore US English, they're wrong ;).

"Defile" is probably what you want, but that's usually followed by "virgins". It's not a word often used. Just say "make messy".

You should do her, not her homework.
