Think twice before you fire up Steam. I just got the CS:S update with the new map de_nuke. It made the CS:S engine unstable (crashed twice on me), and it rendered Hammer unusable. No one has found a solution yet.

Be forewarned.

Yes, the SDK is currently inoperable. I'm sure this will be resolved in a few days.

I have been going nuts trying to get hammer running. At least I know it's not a problem on my end!

Load up Steam with -beta sdk.

The beta works fine. :)

Valve is concentrating so hard on making the beta work right that they've sacrificed the standard release version of Hammer.

Automatic updates are nice, but I would prefer to have the option of updating at some other time. Now I cant work on my Source map for no reason at all, since it worked fine yesterday.
vALVE's policy concerning Internet is also a serious error. They dont know that people in some parts of the world dont have internet access everywhere 24 hours a day. I understand I need to be connected to update Steam, but it's pretty stupid to request an internet connection for map-making or playing singleplayer.
I hate paying for something I cant use at times when I should logically be able to.

Load up Steam with -beta sdk.
Follow trapt's advice. It's a temporary work-around before Valve fixes the problem.

I agree with Kasperg, Im on 56k, and have been updating for ever..if i had my choice, i wouldnt update till after I go to my brothers (highspeed), it gets tireing having to download 15+mb on 56k (1.5-2hrs) and steam...explorer(not IE but windows explorer) has crashed 2 times during the update, its getting really frustrating, then Valve releases another update to update the newley released update..

Using the beta is not an option for me right now since it had its share of bugs. There's always the option of making world geometry in Hammer 3.5 an importing it to Source SDK when everything is fixed.

Valve solved the error with another update.

Well Christmas is right around the corner. I was wondering if anyone would be nice enough to get me a brand new video card ^_^

And what did you think the "cry" face was for? Im crying from hot foods while i try to diss the source mappers? haha!

I hope they fix this before i start mapping on source

Nope I don't think they thought on that like that.

When you said 'haha suckers' it looked like you're going to insult us but then you said that you can't play in source, which is a kind of an insult to yourself.

Don't replay for the problem with CS:S is solved. Mods close this thread.

Is the editor working again or not?
Because i'm not sure if I am being a retard or what, becasue when i tryt to run a map I am making, it comes up with the message:

Can anyone point out what I have done wrong?

The editor was fixed, this error seems unrelated to the updates. Is it a mod you are making or something?

Nope, just a simple map for the competition.

I'll tell you what I have done.

I mapped for HL2Mp and it worked, then I assumed the logical thing to do to map for half-life2 single player would be to click on the thing near the bottom of the SDK and go to 'Half-Life2' then I loaded up hammer and made a bit of a map.

Then I saved in:
C:Programfiles/steam/steamapps/accident123/sourcesdkcontent/hl2/mapsrc

Then I tried to run it and it came up with that error.

Refresh the SDK Content and/or validate the SDK (right click the item in the Steam menu, go to Properties > Local files > "Verify integrity of game cache")

Hmm, I think I deleted the Sdk and redownlaoded it.
I verified the integrity thing, and nothing happened, it did the little bar and then it dissapeared.

Now whenever I try to delete the skd it still stays here, i delete local content, and double click on it again, and it still works.

I still also get the error when I try to run the map, and I just tried to run a map that I created before and used to work and it now doesn't.

Anyone have any ideas?
