Hi.
I just bought Battle feild 2 for PC DVD.
Great!

So I install it, and then start to play it:
it come up with the logo in the middle of my desktop and then the screen goes black. as any other game.
Then, it just goes back to the desktop?
I've updated my drivers. My PC speed is slightly lower than the recoomended specs. and i have enough ram, but not enough Display Memory. it's only half of which is recommended. is this the problem?!

If I start the EAsy program, it has a "i" in a speech bubble when it comes to Display Device.

NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200
is my card.
It has latest updates n' all, so, what's the problem? How can I fix it?!

Your card is absolute crap and wont run it right, your last resort is installing the Nvidia drivers found in the DVD itself. Otherwise return it to the store or buy a new card, a Gforce 6600GT 128mb will do just fine.

updates drivers to the ones that are on the DVD

Hm I might get this game :)
I watched a guy fly a plane upside down through a small pipe and i've always wanted to play an online war game where you can drive stuff and fight together...

Sounds like fun!

I'll add it to my after Christmas List or I might get it for Birthday...

Nope, same problem.
Oh well.

I look on ebay to see any graphics cards...

Just as i thaught, Though the minimum specs on the box are misleading, with the latest patch they screwed up something so it runs like hsit on the minimum specs.

Hey, geforce4 ti 4200 is my card and it's not what I would call crap.
It runs HL2, Call of Duty 2, Doom3 and Quake 4 just fine. Ok, I cant use full anti-aliasing and F.E.A.R is sometimes slow, but that's because the game is optimized like crap.
The only thing my card is missing is HDR lighting. But for a 4 year old (I think) video card it already does more than it should. Shaders, bump mapping, etc.

It's crap compared to modern day cards and requirements for games. It has left its mark on modern day graphic cards, but trying to play bf2 with it......

It's a great game. Well worth getting a new card, which you'd have to do anyway at some point.

Hmm, As much as i enjoy the game, I would probably recommend against it.

The game, if you can get it to work, is awesome in every aspect, but it is getting it to work that is the major problem.
I have had problems, and have just un-installed BF2 since no one knows what is the problem with it.

I have seen so many people with so many problems, prople's computers just don't run it for some reason, people upgrade the whole computer to get it working and spend a fortune, and it still often doesn't work.

If you are sure it will work, which you can't be really, then get it, because it is fantastic, but it is a terrible waste if you aren't sure, and for some unknown reason, it won't work.

I might get a new card this summer, although I havent decided which one. I also need a list of what features the new cards have that mine doesnt. Except the already mentioned HDR, modern games allow us to enable ALL of the effects and high settings with Ti 4200. And that's where the problem is:
Should I get a new card just so I can do exactly the same things but maybe with Anti-aliasing and a better framerate (there really isnt much room for improvement)? Or would a new CPU be a better choice?
Another important thing to know is that my screen only supports 1024x768, so higher resolutions are out of the question...

Since you haven't told us about the rest of your system, it's not possible to advise you. Start a thread if you want a hand.

Ti4200 is trash. BF2 is suckfest. kthxbye.
m0p m0pIllogical.

Ti 4200 is old, not trash. Huge difference. There's no single game that the card can't run decently, except FEAR and Battlefield 2, it seems. Meaning that the problems are probably in those games. My intel740 was crap, and my geforce2 cant do pixel shading and things like that. But Ti 4200 is 4 years old and capable of most effects. It doesnt take a genious to understand it's a good piece of hardware, specially if we remember it was the least powerful of the gf4 Ti series.
I'll make a thread sometime next year requesting advice on upgrades, although I somehow doubt people's judgement regarding money investment. Something like "Waste 300 ? on a 20% framerate gain on a 60hz screen..."

Don't treat me like an idiot when I am trying to help.

You would think that really, but I had BF2 working fine for ages, then I didn't play for a while, then I tried playing, and all of a sudden, it is borked beyond repair it seems.

It is pretty unreliable for some people. I stick with it through the crashes.

Yeh, some people get by fine without any serious problems (Seventh), others get visciously raped by it's black screens, never loading, kicked from serverness (me).

I run it with a BFG 6800GT and it still gets a little choppy sometimes. I'm also running 1024 RAM!
