Newegg.com does not currently ship internationally; we only deliver to locations within the United States and to Puerto Rico.

I have got a price on a gamers PC at a store, price 1750, its got an AMD athlon 65 3500+ winfast Sli motherboard, 1GB dual channel RAM, 160GB HDD, dvd+/-DL Burner, 2x asus 6600TD PCIe and windows XP home.

Is it a good deal or do you think i could do better?

I probably won't get it because i only got About 1 grand in my bank, and its a christmas deal and theres only 2 that can be sold. So if you guys think its worth it I might ask my mum No beg her to give me the computer.
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-11 06:20:34 UTC Post #151614
Hm. The 6600 is a little lame.

The price comes to about what I'm expecting to pay for a similar setup (?750). Probably a good deal, but you might want a second opinion.

Details of the RAM? I trust it's decent quality DDR3200?

I'm sleepeh :P.

It sounds like a good deal to me, but I don't know how dual 6600s compare to, say, an X1800 (which I'm looking at getting with my new rigamajig).

Posted 18 years ago2005-12-11 08:26:37 UTC Post #151644
Well yes I really don't know how they compare to an X1800 because that is $1000 and they are very cheap
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-11 08:36:47 UTC Post #151649
Well, Google reckons SLId 6600s are alright. Have a look yourself.

ok,I'm going to have to go through this again, because I should be able to get a PC for 2 grand now, and The parts that i got recommended before (Thanks everyone) Were just the inside and i need to get the case, and XP(or whatever is good). So I'm going to have to do some more searching. This time i might think about getting 2 graphics cards so i can Sli em, for more power but I don't know. So What im lookinging for is The case, all the hardware and the Other shit that it needs to run. Because it doesn't look like I'm going to be getting one for Xmas :(.

EDIT: And mabye a nice set of speakers and a monitor(19 inch, im hoping for) ( but that probably won't be included in the $2000)

Double EDIT: And because i couldent find half those parts that seventh recomended
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-20 07:00:01 UTC Post #153359
SLI isn't very useful. Go for a single, better, card.

Its a shame that They don't sell half of those parts in AUS, And the ones that they do are usally over priced :(. But the People at PCPP(PC powerplay If you dident know) are alot of help (So are you guys ;)).
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-20 10:23:06 UTC Post #153386

Looks rather good.

Is the 1GiB memory kit 2x512MiB sticks?

I'd double the hard drives and run them in a RAID array for a nice performance boost there.
Seventh-Monkey Seventh-MonkeyPretty nifty
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-20 10:32:32 UTC Post #153390
I'd say its probably 2X512MB
I'll ask

Am I going to need 500Gig? But i can because i will have $2000, What Do you think should I upgrade anything from what the guy said?
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-20 10:52:49 UTC Post #153392
Can't have too much storage, or have it too fast. Go for it, I certainly would.

I'd get another 2x512MiB of RAM, too. 2GiB of two dual-channel RAM pairs is pretty sweet.

Those'd bring you up to a little below $1800. You could spend that on better cooling.

The case seems a little excessive, but I suppose it's nice enough. Cut back on that if you're short of dosh, though. The new monitor not coming out of this two grand?

Posted 18 years ago2005-12-20 11:36:49 UTC Post #153401
Nope, getting new monitor and speakers later :D, The ones i have now are perfectly fine, well the monitor I'm borrowing off my mum freind and the speakers are old but they still work, thats the main thing right :P. I just really wanted to get better hardware and stuff before i get all of that stuff. And yes its 2X512MB RAM. But theres one problem :( I need some sort of Operating system, And doesn't XP HOME cost like , $250 AUS. Might just have to stick with the only one ive got 98 .
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-20 11:57:42 UTC Post #153405
will hl2/steam work with win98? If I were you, I'd go for something higher up than win98. (2000, xp home|pro) Windows 98 is far too limited as far as hardware support (compared to xp/2000)
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-20 12:03:37 UTC Post #153406
What i mean is I've only got 98 at home (The stuff to install it) But I have 200 on this PC.

Anyway I havent seen you in a while, I'm happy to see you :)

Don't pay for XP, you can very easily get it for free. I can toss you a copeh.

Get the 4x512MiB. Beastly.

id say get a second 250GB HD and put it in raid like 7th said.

you may want to get a different, cheeper, PSU less case.

2 Gig's or ram isn't really needed, 1 should do it, id say invest in a 7800GT instead, or a faster proc, say a 3800+
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-20 14:16:00 UTC Post #153467
7800, maybe. 3800+, no. No point when all the Venice cores overclock so nicely... I'm only getting a 3500+ myself for insurance, otherwise I'd get a 3200+ or a Sandy (although I imagine they're a little warmer).

maybe seventh, maybe invest is a water cooler instead? get 3800+ to 4000+ proformace out of that 3500+?
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-20 15:20:10 UTC Post #153509
Don't need to. People regularly get mid-range Venices up to FX-55 speeds with good systems.

Its all very confuzing at the moment, I have to work on getting the parts without a high postage cost and then i have to work out how im going to get XP on here If YOu send it to me seventh. It should unfold soon though.
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-20 17:23:31 UTC Post #153546
good point 7th, but doing so without water cooling or better can really reduce its lifespan.

and you may be better getting the X2 4200+ for about 450 now that I think about it.
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-20 17:48:28 UTC Post #153554
X2s? For gaming? Now?

I'm pretty sure a plain non-voltmod overclock ain't gunna noticably hurt.

Well I'm sure Ill find some good cooling, even if i just save up a little bit more cash and wait for a little longer. Any suggestions on Cooling kits or something like that?
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-20 20:52:43 UTC Post #153611
the $200 water cooler Zalman offeres works very well. but if you would rather have noisy old air cooling you have alot to choose from

I think i might not go for water cooling at the moment, Fans are fine andare a bit cheaper i think

I have to buy cooling shit later, ill just have to get the PC then ill buy cooling, but maabye if most of the prices go down i might be able to :)

The case went down a few dollers as well from 225 to 209 :D
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-23 11:22:32 UTC Post #154107
Ansith, if you havn't gotten it yet, use Corsair Twin-X 2048 for your memory, its a 2Gb kit that you can throw a bit of OCing on. good quality.
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-23 11:35:21 UTC Post #154112
I havent gotten it yet, I should get it late Feb or early march.

I have had a look at some 2GB kits but they are a bit more pricey $450 some of them were the 2 GB 4x512mb one is only 278 (thats 2 1gb kits)

EDIT: I forgot to ask would you guys know what kind of games i could be playing on this, like newer ones and still get good frame rates?

(I think anything would be better, I onlt get like upto 16 frames a second on HL)
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-23 13:51:39 UTC Post #154151
HL2 with everything but the resolution on High
Lost coast
Fear in a way that will look good.
AoE 3

everything modern.

go with the 2Gb kit I recomended, don't skimp on the RAM budget

I don't really want to be getting the 2gb kit because that would add an extra $180 to the price. I'll upgrade later if i need it.Ans i forgot about a sound card. Sould I get an audigy?
