I appologize if this exact topic has already come-up before.

I'm new to mapping for Half-Life and related mods. I've gone though setting up Valve Hammer Editor 3.4 (because I don't normally trust betas). I've also downloaded Zones compile tools. I've gone through your excellent site and worked around the tutorials, but the same problem comes up everytime I try to compile, or open a (supposedly) saved file.

I have congifured everything properly (for CS 1.6), of that I feel sure.

My compile (CSG, BSP, VIS, RAD) is set to all "Normal," and nothing more.

Problem 2: Opening a Saved File

My second problem is if I close the map I'm working on, and then try "open" that exact same map again, I get this error:

"For your information, 1702130524 solids were not loaded due to errors in the file."

After I click "ok," a load bar begins, and Hammer crashes moments later.

I applogoize if this seems like a lot of issues, but I'd really like to get into mapping for CS and this community seems very friendly and helpful. I just hope someone can assist me with these errors so I can start building my own frag-worlds for the CS community. :P

Everything looks ok to me in your config and build programs--thanks for including them btw :) --, but are you sure your main path is correct?
C:Program FilesSteamSteamAppsanime_freak2001@hot
mail.comcounter-strikecstrikemaps

Mine matches yours, except:

c:program filesvalvesteamsteamapps...

If that's not it, you might try the previous version of Zoner's. I assume your using Zoner's beta?
"For your information, 1702130524 solids were not loaded due to errors in the file."
HOly shit! 'Usually see that when you open a decompiled map, but never 1702130524 of them!!!
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-28 22:12:57 UTC Post #155047
1702130524 is a big number...

It will depend on which directory he decide to install Steam in...

Try not to use "@" in your map name. If your .MAP name is not anime_freak2001@hotmail.map, that means the Hammer batch compilation screwed up...
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-28 22:23:22 UTC Post #155050
Some of that was jibberish to me, but I'll say this:

I installed Steam to Program Files/Steam, not Valve/Steam

And as the map name issue: I named my map "testing," not after my email address. So I'll assume that it is indeed a Bacth issue. Anyway of fixing this?

[Also, thanks for replying. :)]
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-28 22:27:07 UTC Post #155052
OOh I didn't know you were batch compiling! I have absolutely no knowledge on BCing, but does it compile the "normal" way?
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-28 22:31:43 UTC Post #155053
I haven't a clue. I'm use to mapping for Jedi Academy. :P

I installed Hammer 3.4 and the latest Zone tool set.
Configured my game via your online guides here.

I have touched nothing else.
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-28 23:17:58 UTC Post #155061
you made a jedi academy map in hammer? Either Hammer can't do that, or I never knew it could.
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-28 23:33:21 UTC Post #155065
No-no, thats not what I meant.

I'm just use to mapping Jedi Academy on GTK Radiant.

I'd like to use Hammer to map for Counter-Strike 1.6
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-29 00:10:16 UTC Post #155067
Well, I've gotten the "Access denied" error one time, and that was when I accidently deleted my ZHLTools. Make sure your paths are correct for your tools.

As for the solids can't be loaded, no idea.
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-29 01:11:26 UTC Post #155073
The problematic process is this one:

** Executing...
** Command: Copy File
** Parameters: "C:Program FilesSteamSteamAppsanime_freak2001@hotmail.map" "C:Program FilesSteamSteamAppsanime_freak2001@hotmail.comcounter-strikecstrikemapsanime_freak2001@hotmail.map"

The rest is ok...

When you press F9, do you get this screen in Advanced mode? If not post yours.

Why is it saying hotmail.map??? Post pics of your build programs and configuration dialogs. Actually we won't be able to see them becuase of the long pathnames...

I would rewrite all the paths and see if that fixes it.
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-29 02:48:14 UTC Post #155090
I checked over every single file path and they are all correct. I changed my compile settings to look as close to that as I can:

Well, this one is wrong.

Why do you have your tools in the steam directory? Try moving them somewhere else--I use the Valve Hammer Editor directory and put them in the 'tools' folder. If for no other reason, the path is simpler.

Sorries! I didn't notice the truncated filename!

Well, here's what my bsp looks like:
Command line: C:PROGRA~1VALVEH~1toolshlbsp.exe "c:program filesvalve hammer editormapsbattlefront_turret"
Notice your's is strangely different. And doesn't show the map name:
** Command: C:PROGRA~1VALVEH~1toolshlbsp.exe
** Parameters: "c:program filessteamsteamappsanime_freak2001@hot
mail"
'Couple things to try:

-Are you using Zoner's tools? "Zoner's" should be in your compile log. Use 3.2.1 not beta if you are.
-You could try unistalling hammer and starting over.
-In Sevneth's steam tutorail, he talks about creating a batch file to shorten your filenames, and makes it less confusing. I would do that too.

I'm surprised nobody directed him to here already...or atlist to leak free

Edit:
Damn it looks like there are many possible reasons for this error.
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-29 06:32:42 UTC Post #155112
Well, up to the last bit, you should have been directed to the SUBST part of the Steam tutorial (shame on you, guys :P).

After that though, I'm not quite sure. C:PROGRA~1VALVEH~1toolshlcsg.exe "c:program filesvalve hammer editormapstest" looks perfectly valid to me. Try replacing the short-name path to the CSG executable with "C:Program FilesValve Hammer Editortoolshlcsg.exe", or the opposite, replacing the Maps path with C:PROGRA~1VALVEH~1mapstest".

It is called test.rmf or .map, right?

As for the "xxxx solids not loaded", I'd say that file's probably gone. You using the .MAP or the .RMF? There are backups of each produced automatically, .MAX and .RMX respectively, which will be in the same directory.

But he will have to use SUBST everytime...

Try using ZHLT 3.3, as mine is shortform but works effectively.

When I compile, my log is this:
** Executing...
** Command: Change Directory
** Parameters: "D:CZ"

** Executing...
** Command: C:PROGRA~1ZHLT33~1hlcsg.exe
** Parameters: "c:documents and settingsAdministratordesktopMapsde_mainoffice"

I decided to uninstall/reinstall.

Valve Hammer Editor 3.4
Zoners HL Tools 3.3

I installed ZHLT's to my "Hammer/Tools" folder. I also limited my .wads to just 8, as per the Worldcraft/Hammer Setup Tutorial.

Hmm. The entire little box that is my level is textured in "aaatrigger," the small purple/black lambda symbols.

If I do a normal compile and attempt to load my map, it gets all the way down to the last 2 bars (usually where I enter the game) and CS just totally crashes back to desktop.

If I do an expert compile and attempt to load my map, it begins starting the server and crashes there with the previously mentioned "Abnormal program termination."
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-29 17:56:34 UTC Post #155216
Try re-texturing the block. AAATRIGGER sometimes does odd things when used on large surfaces.

Did that. same problem.
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-29 21:34:49 UTC Post #155241
Well at least it's compiling now... Do you have any insight on what the problem may have been, so it will be easier to diagnose this in the future?

Maybe just the reinstall did it, but it was more likely something with your paths--It's impossible to set the paths for the compile tools to an improper directory, but if you deleted/renamed the directory/moved them, it could be the cause...

And as far as your new error, I have no idea. I'll tell you though it's giving me flashbacks of Windows98!!
But he will have to use SUBST everytime...
No. If you read Seventh-Monkey's steam tutorial which also covers use of SUBST, you'll see he mentions using a batch file, so you only have to do it once ;)

Soooo much easier and you can actually see the whole path when you look in hammer options...
Posted 18 years ago2005-12-29 22:04:10 UTC Post #155248
I just simply placed my CS and mapping stuff near the root directory... eliminates the use of SUBST and a batch file.

Vicarnullet, I can't see the image you are linking to... I think you linked wrongly...
