What I mean is getting the .map file of a pre-existing CS 1.6 bsp. (What I want is militia) Is this possible? Should I look to download the .map on the web, or can I somehow convert the bsp to obtain the .map?

there are programs available that will do what you want, however, you can only use them to see how things are done. If you decompile, edit and then release as your own work, it is illegal

I just want the APC from Militia. Im having problems getting downloaded prefabs to work, and Im not sure how to fit a vehicle texture to a brush so its the right shape. BTW, what are those programs called?

Thanks :) I just downloaded Win bsp :)

WinBSPc sucks donkey dick.

I recommend BSPtwoMap.
Note that decompiling a map pretty much fucks the structure of objects up. You'd do best to recreate the objects brush by brush.

I thought there are so many prefab labs on the Internet that has the APC...

Like HL Prefab Lab, or search around. There are tons of prefab sites.

WinBSP > BSPtwoMap

why?
BSPtwoMap createds the brushes thinnest and textures fucked up, WinBSP makes them nice

I got WinBSP just a few hours ago, screws up textures and well everything

WinBSP doesn't work, and BSPtwoMap makes a horrible mess. You'll have to rebuild any but the most trivial of constructions.

Well, whenever you decompile some solids will be invalid.

All solids. What BSPtwoMap does is hollows every brush, no matter what shape it is. Don't ask me why, it just does.

Because thats what the compilers do to your map in the process of being converted to BSP.

Strange yesterday I had Winbspc working and today It just says the decompile was cancelled.

For me it's exectly the oppisite winbspc works and it make a mess with the solids, making most of the complex objects invailed and it leaves the textures as they are. BSPtwoMsp doesn't work for me.

In another words, don't decompile maps, make them. :)

Well, If you have no choice and you need some stuff from a map, Decompile.
I only got to decompile one map to help me with the textures (with permission of course) And it ended yp it screwed up all the textures and left me with everthing else fine. That was good but now that I need to get something out of another map of mine which I lost the rmf to I can't convert it because the thing says it fail to read it.

It's pretty much a worthless option for recovery in HL1. The cuts it makes into the geometry are ghastly and ruin the chances of recovering things for the most part.

WinBSPC always converted solids properly for me but did not store texture coordinates or information. BSPtwoMAP always worked and saved the coordinates (mostly) but did not retain original solid information.
