Having this issue lately, any body of water i incounter ingame is odd.
It's not a mpaaing problem, its more how the water get rendered by the hl1 engine. it has the feel that all water gets rendered with an fx amount of 255 and a waveheight of 3-4 units.
So even a puddle on de_aztec's ct spawn is totally wrong.
Updated my Gfx card drivers, but that dosen't fix the problem, any ideas ?

Hey Razor, not seen you for a long time.

Which render API are you using? OpenGL, D3D, or the, I presume, VALVe-written Software?

We recently got new graphics cards on the machines at work, and if you try running HL at greater than 640x480 (OpenGL), the map seems to go randomly "full-bright". Probably not the same issue, but it might be worth running at a lower res to see if that makes a difference...?

I ran it at 800x600 and no issues...

Not on THESE graphics cards you didn't! ;-)

At home I run it at 1024x768, so I know the OpenGL can handle it -- but I think with the cards we've got at work (which are NOT gaming cards) it's either a compatibility issue, or a memory issue.

random fullbright? Probably a compatibility issue. Memory would just make the framerate shitty.

As much far as I noticed, the water got two serious problems with the HL1 engine :

_no lighting rendering on, no shadows, nothing, it just look full bright no matter the lightings around,
_you might fall from a top of a skycrapper, if you touch a func_water brush just before to touch the ground, you are totally safe, which is an incredible lack for the gameplay (on CS) and the realism ...

I try to never put water areas in my (CS) maps, and when I see a (CS) map with water on the screenshots (especially with that too blue old HL1 texture), I think "omg again another nub map : why the hell do mappers hate CS so much ? : ...".

Whoa just spotted all the spelling errors in my previous post ... Man was i drunk when i posted that.

Anyways, all seems to be fixed now, in an odd way without me altering anything since i've had the issue.

I'm on OpenGL 1024x768res on an ASUS X800XL.
Wish i had a screenshot of it.
Anyway, Thanks for the feedback guys !

It happens in any map, any graphics card.

The other problem... seems to be a hardware problem...
