I've been given an assignment at school today to find the history of PC games and how they have changed over the years but the problem is I havent played a lot of the older games and well from what I know you guys do so if you guys could help me out with this it would be great, What I basicly need is the big games that were really good for their time say like Half life. I know I should be reserching this but so much crap comes up. So if you can help thanks.

Doom was the obvious king of 3D shareware games - that was until ID realised its success and began selling it rather than giving it away, it was also one of the first semi-3D games. Look up Wolfenstein and Terminator: Futureshock (? i think that's it). The most obvious old games however would be Pacman, Tetris and Space Invaders.

Dune II (Dune 2, Battle for Arrakis / The building of a Dynasty) was the first game that introduces RTS (Real Time Strategy) and was the first game that had many followers like Command & Conquer, Red Alert, Generals.

Wolfenstein 3D is the mother of the FPS games, and Dune II is the mother of the RTS games.

Unreal was said to be the first 1st-person-shooter with a proper AI.

More important than the games they made, is ID itself. They pushed the computer games onto a new level not only once.

Pong is not the first video game, it is the first one known, but not the first one : the very first video games have been created during the 1950-1960 decade by americans students, which there's nothing left today, but I heard it was matter of questions/answers, guess the number I think, hit the right target etc games, Pong went out in 1971 I think...

I remembered once looking around in the internet for a castle wolfenstain 3D download then I read somewhere that the first 1st person shooters games wasn't it. It was said ID created before a unpopular fps game called 'catacombs rider' or something like that, I don't remember the exact name for it was so long ago.

I actually played Pong myself, back in 1985. It was the first console game.

However, even before that, there were PC games like Kung Fu something. It's like Codename Gordon, a 2D game. I also played Joust on the PC. It's quite fun actually.

I remember my first Ninetendo handheld game. It's called Popeye or something like that. The player had to catch cans of spinach tossed to him by Oliveoyl. That dates back to 1982.

The very first game was in fact a very early version of Pong created by William Higinbotham back in 1958. It ran on an oscilloscope.
You should read the book "Trigger Happy" by Steven Poole. It's quite interesting.

Does anyone remember The Day of The Tentecla and Maniac Mansion? I wish they were still popular.

just google it, not hard. ive actually got a poster at home from a PC games mag with family tree style games history. Very good, you may find an online one.

My first ever console was an Atari Pong console, capable of playing squash, tennis and a couple of other paddle and square ball games. That was back in 1984 when i was just 3

depends on who currently owns them, some are legal some arent. Its up to the downloader to check.

I guess the ones that have the esa on them arnt, but any way i did google but I wanted to get some info from you guys because you guys are good.
