How badly am I pwning TWHL right now?

Should I move on to a more mature community or stick around like a big fish in a small pond?

How badly do you want to see a co-op map done by Kasperg and I? I know this has been in several forums and poses an interesting scenario. I'm willing to team up with Kasperg.

If I offered more personal services like compile-farming and textures, would you care about this?

Please drop in some feedback.

Here's an idea, chill with the arrogance
Posted 18 years ago2006-02-02 12:10:33 UTC Post #161085
Not being arrogant here. the problem is that i think i show off more than i help. from now on i'm trying to be less arrogant and offering more of my services and advice for the n00b and casual mappers. That's why i asked if i should offer texturing skills and optimized compiles as well as whatever i can. I have already proved that i can map like no one else, but I think i haven't been that great of a contributor. I should write some tutorials and try help the community.

You're not that good.

Looks dreamingly at RabidMonkey

yeah, i look up to rabidmonkey too. i think you all are missing the point though. I just want to do more than map for the community. It's not about arrogance.

Frankly, i'm bored of mapping but i still want to be involved with it in other ways, like to help others. That's the point of that part of my questions. I have an unusual urge to expand the community right now.

I don't want to piss anyone off right now. can't i ask a few questions?

don't leave rim, not only will we all be sad, but you will likely be disapointed by the friendlyness of other comunities. Anyway, your not a big fish in a small pond. Your a Big fish in a Big pond where there arn't a whole lot of big fish.

I do however support you posting your maps at other sites, maybe with something pointing your downloadee's to come here.

I would love to see a co-op map between you and Kas. it would be so nice I could cry at the thought of it. Although its up to you two.

Personal services would be great too. But don't do them to the point that they impact your own mapping. maybe write a tut or two. and what do you mean about the compileing thing? that makes me think of like a F@H compiling program. m0p, your thoughts?

and your not pwning TWHL. your just making us all crane our necks to look up at god and smile.

You're not that good.
I agree with ZL ,you are pretty skillfull at architecture. But I dont think you can handle much entity work. :P

the entrance is a bit harsh :quizzical:

As other people have said, I think you made a critical mistake by saying you want to move to a more mature community. I would have considered commenting on your questions but I think you should take one thing at a time.

One thing I have learnt is that's it's better to look up than down. You won't learn anything new this way and you're not exactly attracting new friends either.
Posted 18 years ago2006-02-02 13:25:57 UTC Post #161108

That statement is like getting crobarred. ouch.

But I guess you have a point. I'm not leaving or anything, just thinking about expanding a bit.

@m_gargantua: For actually and accurately answering my questions, many thanks. But I don't understand that whol craning necks looking at God thing. :

I could write a tutorial on texture editing for noobs, but i don't think many will pay much attention to it.

A resolution of mine from here on out is to learn more triggering. Expect to see more quick-maps in the vault. Thanks for the advice.

O'RLY?
I can map like no one else
I remember the last time you said you were going to leave, your goodbye entry in the journal was full of that self-righteous bs. Granted, your maps are beautiful, but you sure as hell don't pwn anything here at TWHL. You just make dm maps ffs, it's not like you've cured any diseases lately.

No, I'm not saying I'm better than you, since I'm pretty sure I'm not (I have only finished one map).

Try improving your other mapping skills. Like entity work. Try thinking on ways making things that were sepposed to be impossible to do with out a costum code.

and here we are at a full circle. starting to reason back to WHY i decided leaving twhl in the first place a while back. Don't i deserve some pride for my work, some self gratitude for my acievements? I don't know about you, but i take mapping rather seriously. It's an art form I take pride in completion. Am i expected to cure some disease? I've learned so much about mapping, the HL engine, the compiler, how to hint, how to optimize all of that AND SHARED THE KNOWLEDGE! I've proven that this knowledge is a powerful tool in my latest map. I don't care if someone else at a different website has already found this stuff out, it's the fact that I brought it to THIS website and shared it. Am I really arrogant if I am willing to share my experiences with the community? Read my journal, it will tell you of my discoveries and the basics of their functions. Don't i deserve a little credit? Just a little "feel-good" moment in my life?

@elon yariv: ya know, that's a wonderful idea. I glad some constructive ideas have come out of this thread. :D

Rimrook... shut up.

you and me both know that if you leave, I will turn into a psycopath due to lack of a target.
It would be awsome if you coptimised people's maps. although i'm sure you'd get bored of it rather quickly.
Texturing on the other hand, you are as good at that as you are at mapping, so maybe a good idea would be to take requests..

whatever.

Just stop with the drama queen thing. you are better than most of the mappers here, but people do tend to get defensive when you openly state just how damn fantastic you are...
yeah.. dont leave.

P.S, love teh avatar

Taking requests... awsome idea.

Aside from the bullsh!t in this thread, some great ideas have appeared.

Thank Hunter. I needed that slap in the face.

THIS THREAD IS OVER!!!

:nuke:

EDIT: I don't think i'll ever have the guts to leave TWHL and we both know that, Hunter

from this thread i see their is a lot of testosterone and ego's floating around!
i totally think that would be great rimrook. But you have been helpin out and with your journals and your compile notes and relenquishing of your rmf's in most levels youve been helping more then others. but if your willing to spare some time for example maps and texture help, and possibly tutorials that would be awesome!!!!!
have you tried your hand much at the modelling yet?
well now i think this trhead is officially over

MOVE. TO. SOURCE.

get HL2 if you havn't, go to interlopers.net dont move, just expand. learn advanced source mapping and make somthing that isnt deathmatch or CS, It keeps things interesting.

Pulls fearian and kicks him out
Never move to source.Nobody can make something crappy in Source engine. But in hl1 engine, its possible.Thats what it makes mapping fun in hl1.

DONT. EVEN. THINK. ABOUT. MOVING. TO. SOURCE.

get HL1 if you haven't, go to twhl.co.za don't move, just help noobs. learn about some entities that you haven't fully mastered yet and make something that is so cool for deathmatch. even better than Poison Garden
