ppl. uve probably been gettin all these stupid popups advertising spyware blockers porn n other crap. i found out how 2 stop em! if u hav XP do the following: start, control panel, performance and maintinence, administrative tools, services, double click on messenger, click stop, change startup type to manual or disabled, click ok and the popups cease! i found this all out at http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,990145,00.asp
it tells u all about the popups and how to disable them!

With Opera, u can block pop-ups quite easily. Just another reason why it kicks Microsofts butt!

I dont get pop ups. Do you go to "sites"?
Posted 20 years ago2004-02-15 04:21:48 UTC Post #16224
Not those kind of pop-ups... when I first got cable I would get "windows messages" like 'If you pay me $5 via paypal I'll tell you how to stop getting these messages'. I wonder if anyone actually paid...

Or you could download a firewall, like ZoneAlarm (free).

Ad-aware 6 is waht you want
Posted 20 years ago2004-02-15 05:53:06 UTC Post #16231
It's not adware nor spyware, but a network messenger service that's part of Windows.

Try it - type "net send" in a DOS prompt while running an affected OS and with the service running.

and its precisely the reason its enabled by default that bastard scammers like www.stopthesepopupsnow.com exist.

$25 for a visual c++/c# program probably taken off of a tutorial site that disables a service in XP.. and they suprisingly advertise the site through, you guessed it, the messenger service!

i cant take any more of this. when i said popups i meant adverts appearing on your screen as long as u were connected 2 the internet. the aint popups like adverts u get from websites, but messages sent through the windows messenger system (not msn messenger). these can be disabled by doing what i said in the 1st post. aslo take a look at the link i provided. these are NOT popups u can block with slyware nuker or adaware or anything else.

go onto a large network domain and type NET SEND * and some text, just watch how quickly they ban you! :)
