I dont know if you guys outside of the US have this problem but here it seems like everyone is going emo. They grow their hair to cover their face and always have it angled to one side so it looks girlish, they never shower, they were the tightest pants they can possibly find, wear plaid canvas shoes and have the greasiest hair ever. And theyre always depressed. About everything.

Its getting really annoying and my school is starting to smell like really bad B.O. because of them. And theres more of them every day. Theyre such weirdos. At least they could shower every once in a while. What is this world or at least America coming to?

i first heard the term used in the UK about 2 months ago, it is spreading!

Its more the hair and clothes over here though as i doubt anyone thinks that smelling to high heaven is cool!

ive many friends who are bikers or just covered in tattoos, most people take one look at them and think that they are nothing but trouble. And they do look that way, but you could walk up to any of them and start a conversation, they are truely nice guys and gals. However, these silly little teenage people do my nut in! I understand its hard when your that age, trying to figure out who you are

Wow wow wow, first off, yes Emo is all accross the UK like a rash aswell.

Second, Emo is NOT THE NEXT LEVEL OF GOTH. A traditional goth wont have makeup on, or lots of metal hanging off them, they will just have black cloths and keep to themselfs, I should know because I was a goth when I was 14-17 and in some ways I suppose I still am.

Emos have this whole image about them that I just cant figure out. Its a cry for attention but at the same time saying "Leave me alone, dont pay attention to me, I just want to be left alone." Well like you guys have been saying, if you want to be left alone why do you mutalate your body and wear cloths that stand out and instantly brand you as "I want attention."

I know a fair few emos and underneath it all they can be really down to earth, but I will agree that if you see a random one in the street you just have the urge to kick their fucking head in and tell them to stop being such a faggot.

I like to dress in black clothes (well shirts really anyway ) and i do like to keep to myself when im not in a social mood, this doesn't mean im a goth, the type of goths im talking about are those who just take it too far, looking unbeleivably pale, wearing black funeral-looking clothes, generally looking like Marylin Manson crossed with Michael Jackson. Those type of people i just dislike... alot.

From What ive heard the n'emos are weird but i do not think it has spread to South Africa or at least not to Cape Town but there are a few people who have long hgair that covers their eyes and as for canvas shoes almost everyone has them (im not that into them though) but at our school we have to were a uniform so we cant really see the n'emos

First of all, saying that all Emo's look and behave in a certain way is just plain ignorant. There are people that listen to the music but don't dress Emo-ish, and vice versa. Not all Emo's are depressed and they don't just sit around cutting their wrists all day long.

As i have already said, i have many friends all of whom are different. I myself am interested in death and what lies beyond. However, my comment was based on all these pathetic 14-16 year olds that we get hanging around the local shopping centres. Many of whom do dress like corpses!! Bottom line: I encourage people to figure out who they are, if being different (as you are from me) is who you truely are and thats what makes you happy then great. My problem lies in these idiots who are sheep and just follow the crowd no matter what the crowd is doing, i say be different, but be different to figure who you are not because "Its COOL!"

My problem with emo people is that theyve formed this "subculture" where you have to dress a certain way, you have to have a certain hairstyle and you have to be depressed or act depressed. Also, its considered "uncool" to bathe. Whatever happened to being yourself?

Its also disturbing how tight their pants are. I keep asking myself "how on earth do they fit into those?" Im pretty certain they arent gonna be able to have kids later in life. And yes, they do smell bad. I had a few walk past me and it made me want to gag.

Here in Iowa, we don't really have many goth people, or emo for that matter. We do have a few people that wear black, and have chains on there pants, but not the same as a goth. I remember this one senior that was (at least what I'd consider) gothic, and strangely enough, he was one of the more popular guys.

I'm glad based on many of your descriptions that I've never met an emo person, cuz frankly, he/she would probably not have a happy life here.

Ya.. I have a few emo/goth kids in my school. The girls wear the longest skirts, dress in black, use tons of makeup, dye their hair black and yea - they try to look really depressed. It's kind of a fad in the 8th class.

Yes i do know many goths (in fact both my brother and his g/f are) and all of them are nice people, however ive also met several who dress like goths because their friends do (these are the people i have a problem with). Goth/Emo is a lifestyle choice, one that i have no problem with aslong as its really who they are. My brother has never been happier than he is now, and im so happy for him after all the trouble we've had as kids he deserves it.
