Recently a mate of mine has been wanting to buy HL2 and CS:S, So he look around in a few shops asking around but no one had it, he asked in one of the shops and they said it had something to do with people fighting about something and them unable to distribute it. I was thinking that it was something to do with VALVe and the old distributers but I don't know could someone tell me whats happening?

VALVe has copies in store. I just saw a nice DVD-box (But they're CDs) copy of HL2 when I poked my head into the shop the other day.

yes, but sometimes they are hard to get. like, theres none in the eb games at my place, but there is in another small local shop. look around, ea is distributing them.

or just get it off steam like everybody else?

They're pretty easy to get...
I saw the EA box for HL2 in my local Target store. Search harder.

online is the easiest way but i like box art so i buy retail

Well Its not me its my Friend, And he asked in EB and they said something about VALVe and Steam fighting and I knew that was bullshit, because VALVe runs steam. So I'll just tell him to look in local stores and other places like that.

Yeah, EB don't know what the fuck they're talking about half the time. They should get some knowledgable people in there to run the stores, people who actually keep up with what's happenin' in the gaming world (like me ).

Valve and Vivendi Universal were arguing about something or other weren't they? That could of been what EB was ranting about...?

Yes, and that was ages ago. The case was settled and, as such, Vivendi are no longer VALVe's retail distributor. EA is currently the distributor, and have been for a little while now.

ea has been distributing hl2/source engine games for ages. although i havent seen any new packaging of half-life, which is weird. (only scattered versions of GOTY, and a few platinums. oh and some CZ's with jacked-up prices)
(speaking of jacked-up prices, red faction is one of those clasic games, AU$10, i saw it recently in a store for $80!!! )

I've only seen a few of the 3 box sets ones (mainly the Gman one) But nothing else, none of the DVD ones.

Recalled huh? I got the collector's edition just before it sold out in Kalgoorlie. Now iv'e got a HL2 shirt that i wear everywhere... not, just to bed... occasionally... sometimes.

Well big shops dont sell it but the small shops, were you get costom PC's and stuff like that the most probably have it there, if not i would buy it online.
