What are the best paint programs that are free to download or trial? I'm thinking of paint shop pro and adobe don't seem too keen to give me photoshop for free. I mainly need one to make simple environment maps or modify existing images with features i can't find in things like microsoft photo editor.

get ability photopaint, it's 15-day trial, it's got all the tools that adobe has as well as layers and stuff.

If you can, get whatever money you have and invest in a good graphic package - Adobe; or if you're feeling rich: Corel Draw

I downloaded psp 8 through DC, works perfect. Just download a trial, then a crack to fix it.

I say if the company are stupid enough to offer free "trials" then they deserve to get their product fixed.

paint shop pro rules.
you don't need a brain to work it.

AI also is cool, but costs a butt load.

It's also quick and more web-based than Photoshop, which is what I do more.

I use Photoshop Elements (a lite version of photoshop) and macromedia fireworks. I got it with Macromedia Studio. I am using Studio to create my new website! It doesn't have a server or anything yet. I am testing it on my network. But I swear by Photoshop Elements (cos some1 gave me the disk and I cant be bothered to buy Photoshop) and Fireworks. Fireworks is great for web graphics and Photoshop Elements is great for photo editing and funny pics cos of the transparent layered copy and paisting.
m0p m0pIllogical.

Which dollars? That's not pounds sterling to yankee dollars, it's more like 10:15.
