Because my HL2 Disks are not immediately available

(left them in AZ and a friend of mine is shipping them to me when he returns from being out of the country)

I have to resort to downloading the content to each game in HL2...

In the last 4 days I've gone 2% of Counter Strike: Source... and tonight when I tried downloading more of it, I left the computer unattended and NetZero cut me off!

I really need DSL or Cable. DSL is supposedly available in this area, BUT they have no "open slots" in this area... and Cable wants $45 a month!

Bummer. :(
I used to have 56k dialup.. Twas a pain.
And 45$ a month is really alot. I had my DSL installed for free (special offer) and I can surf from 5pm till 8am for free..
The monthly fee is around 20$.

Haven't seen ya for awhile, btw, Major. :)

Erm, 31kbps? That's not right.

I have 33k people and I've downloaded all the Steam games before, but there's narry a peep out of me. Yes, 33k - a max download speed of 3kbps.

My internet 'jumps around' speed-wise, some days it's 28, some 31, some 33, if i'm lucky it's 45.... their the good days...

I have 60% of HL downloaded, the rest of the mods and expansion packs range from around 40% downloaded to about 2% downloaded... sigh

I knew how you guys felt, I was on 32k till about a year ago. Once I got DSL, I'm never going back :)

Cable usually has first 6 months is 20. Why dont you get it, dl everything, and then cancel? It will cost 20, but your games will be ready in 20 minutes.

Well I feel really sad about my DL speeds for my ADSL 26kbs max so how the hell does Strider get better than me?

Esmajor bad luck, I feel sorry for you.

Yes i figured, it seriously does not make sense, im supposed to be far slower than him, but at times im almost double his speed.

I have ISDN, and it's unbelievably expensive. But it's the only alternative to dialup where I live. Plus it's fast enought to download and play games. Has anyone heard of OC-192? It's got a 9.5 GIG download speed! But it's also over 100k$ a month.. :(

I have the funniest story...

a guy on my rifle team was being dummer then any geek I have ever met. He and his dumass friend refused to belive that an OC-anything was faster then a T1. and the T1's were symetric lines. or even that T3's were faster then T1's. all that after claiming he has a T1 at his house, and claiming that our school has a T1. although our school is cheep, and the speeds don't match that of a T1, they are faster and non-symetric, likely a cable line. I then showed him alot of graphs and stuff on internet speed from University websites then claimed some shit about any old garbage on the internet. and has refused to belive me sinse on the issue.

The funny part is this guy accually is the best hacker in the school.

Why would you need that speed?

I found something faster than all of everything. DWDM. Fastest ever...10 terabyte speed. Beat that! ha! It's obvious that no single computer could ever use anything like an OC, they are ment for companies like verizon, adelphia etc. It's what they use to give you the internet you have.

10 terabyte speed
Heh. You could probably figure a way to dump what you're downloading into RAM... since the best HDDs won't write faster than 3GB/s.

Anything over 100Mbit is a bit too much for even the most "Active" downloaders (Unless you run a server - lookin' at you Zombieloffe). When you get to 100Mbit internet, you start to run into Servers not having enough bandwidth for you. Unless it's bittorrent with other people on 100Mbit lines..

And remember kids, the speed of your Internet connection is proportional to the length of your ePenis! ;)
Posted 18 years ago2006-03-15 14:25:47 UTC Post #168455
Heh most of computers today couldn't handle this big speed.

Hey, hey, him? Me, more like. Man, many 'm' words.

2MiB is wider bandwidth than many servers offer.

Seriously, who uses dialup anymore?

I can get faster speeds connecting my mobile to my notebook--+20 KB/sec, but it's bursty.

I wouldn't care if broadband was $200/month...I'd find a way to pay it, because dialup is just completely ridiculous.
Posted 18 years ago2006-03-16 02:41:26 UTC Post #168572
Well I have DSL (2.4 Mbps) and I get 200-500 kbps of dl speed, when downloading from a good source. Usually - my dl speed is ~100-50 kbps.. :(

I also have dsl.
My friend has cable.. Its quite annoying When your max d/l speed (averages at 45kbps) Is only 2 tenths of his d/l speed. (AVERAGES!!! at 1000kbps)

So.. then i got this other kid who has aol. ( :thefinger: aol)

They're actually forcing their clients to get broadband now.. for like.. "ONLY $48.99/MO"

LMFAO

I know how you feel. Before i used to play C-S on a 28.8k dialup modem..
Didnt even have 56k.. :

By 'play' i mean.. lag and die..
