im new to making maps for HL, ive made maps in unreal ed before and it was really ez... he....he........he..... and here, lets just say.. its a night mare I keep trying, i follow the beginner tutorial. i have a BOX with a player entity and a light entity, i use zoners tools and i set everything up correctly for configuration and when i play the map (and yes my F9 -> test works :)) i cant see anything at all. Nothing at all just complete darkness but i can hear things, buy etc

oh yeah, i even tried not using zoners tools and the tools that came with it, but still this nightmare continues

ok just tested AGAIN... and i cant hear footsteps when i try to move, i dont even know if im moving cuz i cant see

Your light entity has it's brightness gone bad. Increase the last numbers in the brightness field. red green blue <these>
ex. 123.255.232 0 would mean very dark

this is odd - but a black light would still light up a room ;)

and make sure you have your brushes textured properly
(don't use the black texture ;) )

You probably have a fault that creates a leak when u dtart a map some moving objekt is wrong placed, it happend to me sometimes !

I agree with Steinin, make sure the last # isn't zero or you will get zero light from it!

OK, -- make sure that when you MAKE A LIGHT that in its properties there is no 0 at the end, 150-200 is normaly good for a map. And make sure when ur compiling it that ur actally running hlrad . It sounds like ur new so im just saying the basics

lol, everyone drowned in the light stuff.
if you wnat ot darken a room ore outdoor area, use a grey ore doarker light :)
