As you know from my thread "What am I doing wrong" I am knocked back to HL1 and related programs (for now). Not to make it sound BAD, but those who have played HL1, THEN played HL2 I am sure agree that going back to HL1 is like going back to the Stone Age LOL!

So here is my question, because I seem to have no choice but to deal with Steam.

Where on earth is the WAD file?

Each time I start Hammer, it says there are no textures loaded for the game.

Help if you can. Please.

TIA!

in the .GCF files. there are a couple of programs to open GCF's, GCFscape is one of the main ones. get it, extract stuff from the GCF, then load them into hammer. just like a pac file

EDITED:

Okay I'm extracting the VALVE part of half-lige.gcf into the following directory...

G:Program FilesSteamSteamApps<USERNAMEHERE>half-life

Wha? That's not useful, and probably not healthy for your directory organisation.

Just grab the .wads from valve and place them in Steamapps/user/half-life/Valve/. Ought to work charming.

Don't unpack things from the GCF into the Steam directory structure. Ever.

That's a little hard to do when there are files that got over-written - problem is I dont know which ones

I got my .wads from my old won installation.

Halflife.wad from the GCF file, move them somewhere else like in your Hammer installation folder.
For me though I simply extract the WADs and dump them into Steam installation directory... no errors though :zonked:
