I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with this book:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1933097132/qid=1140196008/sr=1-4/ref=sr_1_4/002-2452474-2482403?s=books&v=glance&n=283155

Is it a good modding resource worth the money? Well, I already purchased it, but Im still wondering if anyone knows if its a good resource?

Wouldn't it be better if you asked that question before buying it?

I was just wonderin if anyone read it. Its recommended by VALVe, so its not going to be bad. Just wanted to see if it helped anyone here.

 seems helpful from the reviews, and sometimes books can [shudder] be better than the internet for help, but not often!!! :sarcastic:

I was hoping to read it over my summer break. Hope they have it in stock :)

I wonder whether there will be a day when communities such as TWHL become obsolete because of the popularity of these books.

Mapping would lose its cult status. :|

I'm not into HL2 modding books, as I believe I can get any knowledge I need pretty fast through on-line tutorials, articles and communities and I already know a great deal so far, but if it's a good one it'll certainly help you up to speed a great deal. Good idea if you don't want to spend years of experimenting and learning before getting productive. ;)

I'm reading some game programming books at the moment and those offer a lot of insight in professional game programming - definitely things I would never have dreamed of anytime soon.

these books are usually very newbie oriented, ive used one before (for build, old!!) and it was a great introduction and never got into anything advanced, although saying that the internet didnt exist that much back then

I almost ordered that for my b-day, but ordered a texturing book instead.

You can probably find anything online, as CP said, but it might be a nice reference manual. Tim Holt worked at valve IIRC, and he's also the one doing that surgery-sim-mod too I think, so I think it's pretty credible, if that helps.

Yes I do agree that sometimes online tutorials are more interactive and helpful than books. Well, I dont really need it for mapping, just the modeling, coding, etc. This is kind of a broad introduction to all of it, so I should learn something. Thanks for all the feedback :)

You bought a book on mapping for Half Lfie 2 when you've already got TWHL?

(when you get it, type it up in a text based form and get someone to host it so we can all read it, warez style )
