Looks pretty good hunter but my eyes were caught by the blandness of the stairs. Shift the textures around so they look different...

Add triangle lights or something :D

Shall i model some genuine gyradell props for ya to help things along? I need to do some for my mod too, and i'm willing to share. Stuff Like machines, dynamos, computers, and so on, but all mossed out. Maybe some mushrooms and flowers too.

Another thing that i see lacking in HL:GI is grassy plots on the floor. I usually made the floors grassy and the lower ends of the walls mossy to blend with the grass. Although you have a good use of vines, it appears they too need an anchor. Vines usually hang off the edge of a flat surface, like a platform. Another good detail is the subtle use of water. Bust a pipe and make it drip slightly, than make the water trail across damage and insets of the floor into areas. I know i didn't do too much of water in some of my Gyradell maps, but this mod has me thinking again about it.

Lemme know.

that'd be awsome rimrook.

About the grassy floors, the office is one of the very early levels and basically its not very 'deep' into the gyradellian environment.. as the player gets further into the game, the environment gets more gyradelly :)

so many add-ons for the word Gyradell

Well, i'm currently working on some objects like lab-chairs, small machines, wall monitors, computer rigs, detailed lab tables, liquid containment machines w/ cables and junk, etc.

I'll send you the props as soon as i complete them.

Another note, a neat affect that adds depth to an area is a reflective floor with the plants around the edge. Take the temple-like room of Natural Victory. Also, for great ambiance, make sure that some but not all of the machinery is still functioning. This is good premise for puzzle-scenarios, like you need to turn on the power to this in order to do that. If you already have stuff like this, than i can't wait to play it.

For the props, is this mod supporting model transparency? I can make models with transparency, but i can't test them properly.

Model transparancy works fine in HL too. Well, at least for me it does.

hmm, is it possibly the 1.0.10 patch (or whatever the latest non-steam one is) that enables transparency?

I guess the most useful props you would be able to give me would be an office sofa and a photocopier

It has never worked for me in HL, only the steam version.
But what version does everyone have, i might not be updated.

Truly, model transparency would only effect plant and flora models. otherwise its large tropic leaf style...

There was no official patch to offer model transparency rendering for WON HL, but you can just nab the Steam-provided render DLLs. Be sure to replace the originals. If you're not replacing the files, you're putting them in the wrong place, I assure you.

How can screenshots be quick?

Anyway, looks alright. Rather bland. The default HL textures're awful.
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-26 02:26:20 UTC Post #176777
Yeah looks alright, But you shouldn't have the sign over the pipes it looks a bit stupid.
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-26 02:33:13 UTC Post #176778
that screeny was quick, i almost missed it.

'nice on too. but that plante really is out of place, might i add.

yeah... i really just put it in for a screenshot looking through the plant... But the texture is so low-res that it looked awful...

I'll fix the sign and the ceiling's bad rotation

Hunter, another thing.. the pipe texture that goes along the sides of the tunnel, flip them upside down so the shadow is on top of the pipe, since your light source is on the floor.. other than that, I think it looks good...
maybe the sign could be a bit smaller for the texture resolution.. but hey.. good work :)

ooh. I would, except i have no idea how to add custom weapons to a mod...
Archie ArchieGoodbye Moonmen
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-28 04:42:26 UTC Post #177168
You could replace a weapon with a new model, new sounds, and your set. problem is that you have to sacrifice a gun. i wonder if there is a tutorial someplace that shows how to add custom guns from scratch. :

edit: There's one at verc, but it involves 8 pages of code. :(

Oh that?s right. Hunter wanted me to review his demo...

Ok so I was given the honour of playing it and I thought the intro was great! No flaws and good MGS style camera angles.

The playable map needs some kind of intro as well? You just suddenly change maps and start at the front of this complex...How about a faded black screen with a helicopter landing and you getting off it...

The action was very hard and I chose easy! It was mainly because I had a crowbar, a pistol and a shotgun.

Add health at the entrance to the labs and I'm happy.

Detail was ok but I'm so used to HL2 style maps that HL1 appear less detailed in my eyes with blander textures and so forth...

Keep it up Hunter.

You'll be surprised as to what Goldsource is still capable of.

Hunteh: In that first shot, the floor part looks good, but the ceiling looks horrible. I'd suggest a texture change, as well as the addition of detail brushwork to spice it up.

As for the second shot, the textures are very strangely aligned. Using Alt-Right click while using Lift and Select is a really easy way to get 'em aligned to each other. This shot lacks detail: instead of having it all textured with the metal texture, break it up. Add horizontal trims (ones that still follow the shape of the chamber) with a completely different texture.

Never assume that Goldsource can't handle it, because most of the time, it can.

i enjoyed the gameplay of the demo.
I made good use of my nades after i respawned lol.
i did play it on hard, however.

Overall atmosphere looks good, some minor texture alignment errors as mentioned (stairs, vines, etc)
As mentioned above, the ceiling supports arent too hot. Maybe if you stuff on concrete supports up there and have the pipes go through them individually, it would look pretty neat

comin out good so far

ironically no, i played it anyway.

Might i add that is was worth it too. I feel bad that i can't really make textures for this, since i stacked with work already. Both in HL stuff and School work. I'll try to catch up and I could throw in a new wad for yeah... Maybe today. (May 11, 2006)
