Im sticking with IE obviously...

I haven't found anything wrong with it yet, nor have I had a problem.

(...I have noticed that such sites as www.yahoo.com seems to try and discourage IE use...)

I'm far from a fan of IE, but i just find the other browsers just to be as crappy.

I'm using Firefox right now, and it takes much longer to load a page...

BrattyLord (and the rest of you stupid IE users ;) ): Enable these options by writing About:config in the address bar:
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server - 15
network.http.pipelining - True
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests - 20
network.http.proxy.pipelining - True

And, while you're on it, add /prefetch 1 to the firefox shortcut. Should speed up the program quite a bit.
Posted 17 years ago2006-04-11 17:14:25 UTC Post #173582
I don't care how much resources it takes. I want a web browser, not an internet suite.
I don't see you complaining about Firefox's FTP code, or its RSS code, or...

They are an essential part of your WWW experience, unlike IRC which hasn't got anything to do with anything.

Notice how everyone says "Im never touching FF again,".

Cough*rmghm http://www.opera.com cough**rhmm

Fine, dont touch firefox, but stop using IE. Just because you dont like it
doesnt mean you shouldn't give opera a chance. Its not the same. Seventh and Ant introduced me to opera.. I gave up IE and I didn't think I would either.

Opera is superior to firefox by "user friendly" means and from a programmers prospective. Sure firefox is open source and has tons of plugins but most of their crap is worthless.

Opera makes use of the important ones.

Posted 17 years ago2006-04-11 17:46:28 UTC Post #173593
Bullshit. I'd say firefox and opera are equally user friendly, a donkey could manage them. But opera lacks loads of useful extensions - I mean, what has opera got? IRC and a magic wand? You could get that in firefox, and thousands more plugins.

Opera has the select a word dictionary thing too.

All of us could still live even if we never touch a computer again. I mean, no one would spontaneously self-combust if we don't.

But that doesn't mean we would want to do that.

m0p uses Opera. Opera is therefore > FF.

Name one firefox plugin you cant live without.
flashgot - since i use getright, i need this to catch clicks in firefox

CustomizeGoogle - ok, maybe not absolutely nescessary, but it disables those annoying ads for me and you can turn on google suggest and other useful stuff quickly

IEtab - lets you open an instance of IE inside a tab in firefox. this instance has the security most of the firefox features (it is beta)

ChatZilla - how else would i use IRC? it also integrates links you click to open in the window of firefox you have open and has a range of awsome smilies :P

i use flashgot the most - it is definately the plugin i couldnt live without

I don't get the point of that. If you like firefox, why not use that all the time... ?

Hotmail should work fine in FF, it works in Opera. Windows Live Mail, however (the flashy, IE user interface) doesn't work in Opera and from what I've seen, it's probably better that way.

ZL, we discussed how the clear majority of FF plugins you use are native Opera features (and therefore almost certainly more efficently coded and called).

That's bull Seventh.
An extremely tiny fraction of the functions available from firefox extensions exist in Opera.
Useful or not, it's the liberty to choose which ones you want that's the central argument.

Anyway, Opera is great and I like it alot. Point is, it's centuries better than bloody IE.

By using Internet Explorer you're supporting the usage of outdated standards and faulty code - thereby hurting the web developing community. Think collective, switch today! Gotta see the big picture.
[about IEtab], I don't get the point of that.
Very useful for web designers - testing their sites in IE and FF.

I dont mind switching, but then there should be atleast a single program that is worth switching and atleast a improvement. Wich i dont think opera nor FF are.

Question: Where are my IE favourites stored? So I can simply copy it over to FF. Finally my 10MB is actually being used properly...

Just go to File > Import > Internet Explorer Favourties, or something like that. They're usually stored in Documents and Settings > Username > Favourites.

can you do this in FF? if so, how? because i can seem to get rid of OLexpress being the default email client of FF.

What? There's no mail client in FF. Mozilla developed Thunderbird for that.
Posted 17 years ago2006-04-12 08:58:35 UTC Post #173750
client as in not inbuilt, the client that opens when you click:
1. someones email address
2. the read mail button
3. the new message button
in firefox.

and outlook express is definately not associated with FF anyway. duh. lol.

I really ought to record a video of a visit to TWHL sometime to show you how massively more efficent it is.
Thats now your homework assignment for TWHL ;)

I found fire fox to be;

-faster
-more asthetically pleasing and with a better layout
-safer
-more up to date
-more features which are useful

So I use Fire Fox on my PC, my dad still uses IE and I have no problem with that because its his computer, I have told him to upgrade many times but he keeps on setting it back.

Bottom line is, Fire Fox is actually better for web browsing, if you just want to surf or if you really get stuck in. If you dont want to use it, fine, but dont go saying its worse than IE because it isnt, quite the opposite.
