Are you trying to disprove all the scientific theories you can?

I'm not gonna argue about it but the Dinosaur thing is quite a solid claim.

The egg came before the chicken and I'll tell you why. Evolotion is a siries of mutations. If the mutation is better then the original one it will survive, if not(and it happens alot) it might even die. The genetic deta is created when the egg is furtilaized(excuse my awfull spelling), that includes if it will be mutated in any form.

So the chicken we know to day was first created in the egg.(mutated from a diffrent but similar bird)

Conclution: The egg came before the chicken.

Christians were killing dinosaurs until they realized that all dinosaurs were gay. Then they stopped. But they all still died, because they weren't having babies. But, DANG, those dinos had some style!

God just always existed. Well, actually, he existed before always existed. Time is only measured by change, and before anything was created, there was no time. Everything must exist in all four dimensions. If it does not exist in length, width and depth, it does not exist for time. Sonce God knows no bounds, and does not exist in those 3 physical dimensions, he supercedes all limits of time.

I still maintain that the Bible was not meant to be taken literally, and this God? character was put there to represent everything like change and time.

I recon that God was saying "let there be light" and stuff was just to put inexlainable things like existance into context that humans could comprehend.
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-20 11:45:29 UTC Post #175544
But as soon as you replace "God" with concepts like change and time, then all the stuff he says doesn't apply anymore. "Yay, God is time, so we can do whatever we want!"

Jobabob: the bible doesn't say all that. Further proving that I am not so narrow-minded. After all I just talked aobut science stuff. Science and religion are not mutually exclusive like you would like them to be. BTW, nice avatar, I never figured you for a bush fan. ;)
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-20 11:54:16 UTC Post #175548
I see what you mean, but from my "God-doesn't-exist" point of view, I'm not replacing anything, just looking at God from a metaphorical angle.

lol, I think that's how I say it :quizzical:
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-20 11:57:59 UTC Post #175551
Makes sense to me, Slasher. Although, the metaphorical answer doesn't explain as much as the "God-does-exist." one.

The metaphorical one makes people look smarter to society, but you get less answers to deep questions, I've found.

because the bible says all that right?
Actually Jobabob, the bible does say a lot of that. If you'll bother to read it. "To God 1000 years is as a day and a day is as 1000 years." It also says that God only chooses to manifest himself physically a few times, meaning that he is not physical to begin with.

I think I speak for most of us when I say that quoting from a fic-tion-al book with no evidence whatsoever and some vague references to morals and time and happy cheery stuff and love and bunnies (new testament only) doesn't constitute, er... anything, really. You might as well quote Cinderella at us. Same stuff, really: fairies, good guy wins in the end, be nice, etc.

How is it fictional, because you weren't there when it was written? 'cause I thought there was the whole thing already about how dinosaurs weren't real because they weren't around the same time as us (fossils accordingly don't mean anything, it's just a craaaaazy chance that you find them all together in the shape of something that looks like it could walk around and eat stuff).
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-20 15:33:00 UTC Post #175615
I'm not using that to PROVE anything. Jobabob asked if what i said was in the bible. I was just saying that it was, and gave a quote. Learn to read in context.
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-20 15:34:01 UTC Post #175616
if the bible is so fictional how come they have other books from back then that back it up? Prove that the flood didn't happen or that israel did not exist. Even atheists agree that Jesus existed.
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-20 15:53:43 UTC Post #175621
Jesus excisted? Yes. But all he was was a polictician. That someone wrote a book about it, more or les biographic and people interperted it as a religion.
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-20 15:57:56 UTC Post #175623
Jesus might've lived, yeah, but that doesn't really say much about the bible or him being divine. He was a prophet, thinking he was the son of god. I mean, really... the bible is a collection of stories and fairy tales.

Couldn't have put it better myself. Religion seems to have grapsed itself into society very well. We have morals in our laws. I'm not saying it is wrong, it's just there. I bet that the government will push more for things like this, rather than choosing a New World Order. What we deem as humane through religion may be the cause of inhumane results through our society, via conformity.
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-20 16:17:45 UTC Post #175634
I think I should say something for religion just to mix it up...

They did find the Dead sea scrolls which fortold the life and exact death of Jesus 1000's of years before it happening. These documents were carbon-dated to infact be before the death of Jesus. It wasnt just vague , it was the exact way he died, and lived.

Other things such as natural disasters and events in history have been fortold as well.

I dont think anyone here has enough proof to justify a definite belief in he exists, or does not exist. It is a contiuing effort to prove. Some people here just say he exists because of upbringing. I say keep learning and eventually make your own decision.

One thing proved by science is that life doesnt spontaneously generate itself without reason. Maybe God created the proto-plasmic pool we spawned in?

Viruses come about kind of spontaneously, so maybe we evolved from Viruses, and we are infact a Virus. We corrupt the land we live on draining it of resources, consume the other life around, so maybe we are evolved viruses.

I say, dont pick one until you are convinced beyond any doubt that its right.

Thats very dumb Professa Oak. Religion is what guided man while he was still a hunter/gatherer. It is what brought civilization throughout the Dark ages. Its what forged our ethics and laws.

The real question is the philosophy of the "Evil Genius"

Any one familiar with this philosophy? Probably not, so let me explain:

Religion could of came from God to give society laws, and stop it from destroying itself.

Or it could of came from a man (Or men) who saw the evil and potential of man, so he intruduced the concept of a God, and laws to govern the people. Indirectly he put laws and control on them which he knew they would obey. Thus this controlled society giving it law and order, from chaos and despair.

Or, replace the man with Aliens planting this belief on earth for us to follow.

Very interesting indeed.....

And sometimes conformity serves a purpose. Like giving order and law to the lawless.

BTW, sorry for the Double post. Didnt want someone to post before me, and lose my little rant.......

There are many religious followers (i.e. fundamentalist Christians) who believed that dinosaurs walked side by side with humans (because the Bible says the Earth is just a few thousands years, instead of millions). They refuse to believe in evolution, and they dont' want it to be taught in schools either.

I'd say let them be. In fact, don't even bother teaching them biology. Heck, let's scrap the entire science and math curriculum for anyone religious completely. They should just read the Bible, and don't even go to school. Sunday school and a Bible study should suffice their entire educational experience.

Praise the Lord!

Mean while, I'll send my children to universities and have them learn about molecular evolution. They will become scientists and get fully educated on the rigors of science.

Having lots of ignorant people in this world is essential. Otherwise, who will do those menial low-paying jobs? We need janitors and waitors. Otherwise, who will my kids order around when they need something cleaned?

It is what brought civilization throughout the Dark ages.
It's what the church used during the dark ages to control the population and generally steal their money. "Give priest money get to heaven" seemed to work well for the church's financial needs. If religion would've been replaced with a solid political system during the merdieval times, I believe the ages wouldn't have been so dark at all.

Religion didn't civilize society, political thinkers did.

But I just don't understand why any Christians should feel sad when their family members of friends die. They're in a better place, isn't it?

The human race will be like any other predator/prey thing, peppa.

Lots of rabbits leads to more wolves, leads to less rabbits, less rabibits lead to less wolves, less wolves lead to more rabbits and so on.

Just replace rabbits with resources and wolves with humans. The influential people don't think that oil/coal's so expensive that we should research solar power and similar techs., and so it won't be researched until they think it is.

Sure you can.

Christians make me laugh, they are really quite pathetic in some ways.

Jobabob summed it up really.
They think that a giant man in the sky created everything somehow, then they believe that if they beat all the gays they will get to go and live with him in the sky.

Religion just really makes me cringe, the way some Christians are so horribly narrow minded.

But really, I don't care, religion doesn't effect me, so I leave it alone. I need something to laugh at every now and again.

Yes I see your point! "Do not Kill" is so outdated!

You all are making judgements going by the WORST of christians. That is like me saying that ALL gay people have aids and knowingly spread it. Just because SOME do.

How do you explain the dead sea scrolls?

Plus you are all so narrow-minded. You are throwing out ANYTHING as a theory. Aliens jizzed in the sea and we evolved? ALIENS? We evolved from VIRUSES?

And I am not condeming anyone. I am just wishing that they were in a better place.

Isn't heaven a lot better than Earth? Wouldn't it be better to get there sooner rather than later?

I treasure every single minute on Earth, because it's all I got. I value everything around me, because they're precious. My time is short, but I'll enjoy every second of it. I'll be very sad when it's time to leave.

No, I believe men were made from a big man in the sky and then he made women from the mans rib, cause that seems cool.
How do you explain the dead sea scrolls?
I don't, cause I know nothing of them, really.
Good guessing?
Scientists aren't even sure when it was written. WikiPedia says anything from the 2nd century BC to the 1st century AD.
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-20 17:13:33 UTC Post #175670
Narrow minded eh?

I think you guys are miss intreperting what it is to be a christian. It is simply a personal relationship with God. That's it. You don't have to be nice, don't have to go to church, don't have to pay anyone money...

Unfortunatly, there have been many that have capitialized on chistianity. For example, the middle ages, with the catholic church. What was done there was wrong. I think we can all agree on that.

Also, I don't believe God in a giant creature in the sky. In fact, I can't imagine him a creature at all. He's beyond normal space-time, and that gives him both mighty power, and responsibility.

Which is why Jesus came, to give man a second chance, a way around God's law. The punishment of sin is death. Death being defined as seperation from God. The only way that God cound give man a second chance, was by switching our death, with another's. Jesus chose to die on that cross as an exchange. His life, for ours.

You may choose to believe or not too. But at least be thankful you have a choice in the matter. I personally would like to see many of you in heaven someday.

I will not however, give a speech on hell, I know most of you don't care, and that's all you've probably heard on the subject of God. I'll just leave you with this, it's not a Do this or rot forever, it's instead an offer for another chance.

See... the difference is, gays aren't holding back society and killing people by the dozen, wheras religious people are.

Incidentally, a few friends of mine are religious. It's... terrible. I never speak to them of it, because I know how it would infuriate me.

I hate religion. It's down at the bottom of humanity's creations, along with fashion. Lower, though, obviously.

If truly God does NOT exist, then it would be necessary for humanity to invent one. Because there are many circumstances in our lives that are too painful to tolerate alone. We feel powerless frequently, and there are still many things that we have no control over.

So at those trying times, spiritual support can be extremely valuable and important. Sometimes I envy those who truly belive, because they have something that I don't have. They have this additional pillar that I will not be able to lean on.

But for the life of me, I can never believe something that is so intangible and so abstract. And through many facets of religion, it has been abused beyond recognition. Organized religion has become a political machine, where a power and financial struggle is at the core of the organization instead of the original pure intention of the founder.

It's unfortunate that religion has been tainted and transformed into something so ugly.
