Which of these two shooting sports is better?

I myself think Airsoft is a better choice because it's far cheaper, there's little cleanup, and the guns actually look like their real counterparts. I also think that Paintball, unless you're sponsored is a waste of money. 2000 rounds of paintballs would cost you about $40 - $50 while 4000 rounds of 0.12 bbs will sell for around $7.

Another thing is that in paintball, you have to buy canisters of CO2. These may not be expensive but it can be a pain if you run out. All you gotta do in Airsoft is charge your INCLUDED battery with your INCLUDED charger for a few hours.

The only thing that I don't like about airsoft is how the game is played. You must call yourself out if you are hit without any real proof. In paintball, this is always clear. So, which is a better sport to play?

I'd prefer to shoot somebody with a real gun rather than an airsoft/paintball gun myself, much more lethal, but some dumb law enforcement types put me in handcuffs and throw me in a darkened room for some reason whenever I try that :(
m0p m0pIllogical.

Its a damn shame, isn't it?

I've never played paintball before, but I love airsoft mainly because of the realisim aspect. Since paintball isn't realistic at all I'd have to say airsoft is better.

I thought id need to post a giant ramble about why airsoft is so clearly better than paintball, thanks for saving me the bother. The ONLY things airsoft has going for it is that its generally more accepted than airsoft, easier to get a group together for and you cant fake not being hit!

air rifles pwn, not shit airsoft with crappy plastic bullets. paintball is fun, but not accurate enough for me, to random and lucky to hit. also, not powerful enough. Nothing beats hitting a small bird at 50m + with a .22 12ft/lb rifle using a 32x8 hawke midot scope!!!

alex you are one sick twisted person and are the very reason I dont use weapons that could be used for such viscious purposes

Airsoft is superior to paintball in every way, save that with Airsoft you have no definitive way to prove if someone's hit.

For that reason only, I think paintball is better.

Laser tag is maybe the best because it has arguably the most accurate way to register and log hits. The only downside to it is you can bounce shots off shiny surfaces, and block your sensors.

We used to have a great lazer tag arena near where I live--Q-Zar--, but it closed a long, long time ago :(

Laser tag doesn't even hurt. Useless.
Haven't tried airsoft, not even sure I know what you mean, but Paintball's loads of fun.

OMFG ITS BETTAR THAN ITSEELF!

No pain no gain, eh Zombie?
Airsoft = replics guns that shoot small plastic BBs instead of bullets. They can either be made out of metal or plastic(usually plastic but the really good ones are made of metal, but those are more dangerous than anything) and can be either battery powered, CO2 gas powered, or slideback powered(pull the slide/bolt and it cocks a pellet in the chamber). Give it a try, its great fun.

Well generally you don't hold air rifle matches considering the extreme likelyhood of someone losing an eye and getting metal balls.... shot into their skin :)

And like, getting hit in the mask and you can't see. I love it ^^

Oh, we call them soft air guns, wasn't sure. Not a big sport over here, compared to paintball, we just run around in the woods shooting eachother with them.

Definetly Airsoft guns. Plastic bbs is the only way to go! :D
Makes it much more realistic.

I'm a paintball person myself. Although I got rid of my equipment a couple years ago, I would still love to get into it again.

Just something about being able to shoot someone without the whole DEATH PENALTY THING in the way :P

Personally, I wouldn't mind having an airsoft gun just so I can shoot paper targets. That way, if some dunderhead runs between the gun and the target, and I shoot him, I won't be stuck in a jail cell with Bubba for the rest of my life.

If you have a gas powered pistol/SMG the 'green gas' can get pretty expensive. A Canadian company called Airsoft Innovations has researched the green gas and found that it is actually propane, coloured to look the part. They sell an adapter that you can use to power your gas operated guns with the green canisters of proane you use when you go camping. Recudes cost and gives you more shots for you dollar.

Personally, I own a couple airsoft guns, and a Tippmann 98. I prefer both.

I like Airsoft because the weaponry looks more real and you can get away being more tactical and shit. People look at me funny when I show up to the paintball arena with a full military get-up, although then again that's why I don't play at arenas often =/ - It's more fun with buddies in the woods somewhere.

Yeah, when your playing with friends you know the honor system will hold up (Airsoft only, obviously).

If you play Airsoft with metal pellets you can register if you have hit someone...

...they are usually the one on the ground after a pwnage headshot.

Some green gas is just C02, you need a proper metal frame to use it without your gun blowing up at the same time, not many airsoft guns will take it. It also increases fps beyond legal guidelines (1Joule/328fps)

I thought the definition of an airsoft gun was that it's powered by air - carbon dioxide guns are something else, aren't they? I've shot both, I mean, but atleast we don't have the same name for them.
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-28 04:12:38 UTC Post #177166
confusingly they're mostly powered by springs pulled back by electronic motors and nothing to do with the pump action air powered pellet guns you can get
